Still waiting for @VPrasadMDMPH to to sit down for a real interview or podcast where the host(s) don't kiss his ass with softball questions.

Having seen supernatural talents in both math and biology, I would say that biology structurally requires more wisdom than virtuosity, but both require great creativity.

Hot take: There is a proliferation of people making their PowerPoint slides with Claude and it’s terrible.

After almost five meaningful years at the @IcahnMountSinai, I’ll be wrapping up my time here at the end of June and closing this chapter of my academic career.
I’m deeply grateful to my colleagues, trainees, collaborators, and leaders at Mount Sinai for the opportunities to build programs together and push the science of neuroimmunology and care of inflammatory skin (and other) disease forward — it has been a privilege to grow alongside such a talented community.
In July, I’ll be joining the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research & @NorthwellHealth as the inaugural Chief Biotechnology Officer, focusing on building new bridges between discovery, clinical research, and biotech across the health system. I’m excited about the chance to help accelerate translational science at scale and to work with new partners across academia, industry, and venture. My lab will continue to focus on foundational science in neuroimmunology. More details soon.
To everyone I’ve had the chance to work with so far — thank you. I’m looking forward to staying in touch, finding new ways to collaborate, and continuing to advance the field together from this new perch.
Delighted to share our latest review on 3D multi-omics tumor atlases. A major @theNCI #HTAN team work w/ @deniswirtz @AshleyKiemen @StimulatedRaman @SStevenWang, kudos to my phenomenal postdoc @Miao__Liu and co-contributors Jorge, Andre, & Xiaolong, on this team work! 🥰

Heading to #ASCO this week and really looking forward to the energy and the science.
On a personal note, I’m proud to share some work my team is presenting this year. I want to briefly highlight why I think these results matter.

On Friday, I hosted a forum with the top 5 Democrats running for governor of California on how they'd fix the state's housing crisis. Some really interesting moments, including this one, from @katieporterca, on California Forever and master-planned communities.

Excited to share SapiensOntoCellMap! 🚀 An open-source tool for ontology-aware, hierarchical cell type annotation of scRNA-seq and spatial transcriptomics data.
Built at @UCSF to solve a major gap: moving beyond simple labels to true biological context. 🧵👇
Excited to see this in print! Kudos to Haikuo, Bo, and the entire team including @MinaXu7 @yalepathology @zhou_jingtian @arcinstitute to explore this clinically relevant area of lymphoma transformation with truly innovative technology. @theNCI #HTAN

1. A tiny California tribe, the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, just donated $2 MILLION to MAGA Inc, Trump's Super PAC.
I decided to find out why.
It's an illustration of exactly how business is done in Trump’s Washington.
Follow along for details.

Cancer is an evolutionary process. We've known this for decades, but we didn't know whether its complexity was tractable.
We now know we can measure and sometimes predict cancer evolution in patients from molecular ('omics) data, although with still suboptimal precision.
A way forward is combining evolutionary theory (maths and concepts from theoretical population genetics) with machine learning & AI, the latter filling the theory “gaps” when solutions from first principles are out of reach.
Building predictive models of cancer evolution means we may be able to control the disease, designing evolution-aware therapies that prevent or delay drug resistance.

I've used em-dashes my whole life — they add rhythm and grace to writing. But now they're an AI tell.
Can we get a grandfather clause for those of us who were fluent in em-dashes before ChatGPT launched in November 2022?

Accomplished individuals for sure, but you need to look at more award codes to get a complete picture. The bigger name scientists often go for R35, P01, and U-awards, which can pay 3x an R01.

Imploring all Warriors fans to read the actual JK article. Don't do the thing where you only read snippets posted by aggregator pages for engagement. @anthonyVslater did an awesome job, and it's absolutely worth your time.

How STABLE is chromosomal INSTABILITY? We followed copy numbers over years in colorectal cancer patients. Chromosomal instability is high at single cell level, but does not manifest macroscopically, suggesting negative selection of karyotypes: doi.org/10.1158/2159-8290.CD…

I resigned from the board of advisors of the University of Austin (UATX, not to be confused w U T Austin) within weeks of their inaugural announcement, because they "had no coherent vision of what higher education in the 21st century ought to be. Instead, they created UnWoke U led by a Faculty of the Canceled." Also: science was an afterthought. And they were so knee-jerk anti-woke that they were unprepared for the genuine issues that led to woke overreach, like sexual harassment. Four years later, my worst fears came true.
