So I was trying to understand why pull requests speeding up the Elixir version were being denied by the clankers while they were being accepted to Go/Express/Rust. It turns out that, not only each project had a different starting point and a different prompt, but also each project also has a different set of verifications that they are required to pass! For example, Elixir is the only guided to "preserve the pinned Rails reference behaviour", the only with a explicit verification that we are using Redis and draining its queue (so we cannot remove it while others can), and the only one actively enforcing it. So it turns out that the people telling you to not read the code cannot even use AI to set up fair benchmarks (probably because they would have to read the code in order to do that). You don't have to believe me, you can do your own research or ask your agent to do it for you. E.g. here is what Claude Code came back with: gist.github.com/josevalim/ae…

Also extracted a separate verification project that's responsible for the benchmarking and checking of new implementations and improvements to the existing ones. The full report from the latest runs is there too. github.com/basecamp/once-cam…

Yeah, it's worth a try, I think it could save quite a bit of IO on large files and folders. For remote builders, switching to gRPC with builtin compression helps also quite a bit github.com/Mic92/nix-grpc-st… . And then on the other side, nixpkgs's dependency tree could be shrunk.

The clankers are all right ....

I have asked my clanker to send some PRs for the Elixir one. Please ask your clanker to verify them and tell your clanker we are allowed to deviate from the Rails version in the same way Express/Go/Rust/ do (it was objecting to that in other PRs)! The clanker says there is more work to be done but I don't have infinite tokens, so it would be nice to see those merged first.

idk if I understand correctly I just need to update /etc/nixos/configuration.nix without touching the actual config files?

Chock now has a comparison with Claude Code and Codex. chock.ws/comparison/
Feedback from our security team: you should put up a comparison in terms of security compared to the alleged sandbox capabilities of Claude-code and Codex

If coding agents will write most of our code, what happens with our communities and sense of ergonomics? How does it impact our compilers and tools?

Added: - Nix flake for macOS and Linux: `nix run github:earendil-works/pi/stable` runs the latest release; `nix profile add github:earendil-works/pi/stable` installs it. Project MCP overrides: a `.pi/mcp.json` entry without command or url sets only enabled, exposure, and toolExposure of the user-level server. `oauth.clientRegistration: "cimd"` identifies pi by its Client ID Metadata Document URL instead of dynamic registration. - `pi.registerToolRenderer()` draws calls to any tool not yet registered, fixing MCP tool calls in resumed sessions and HTML exports that rendered fully expanded until their server connected. Cloudflare Clef (`@cf/cloudflare/clef`) and Clef Flash (`@cf/cloudflare/clef-flash`) are now usable from codemode scripts and extensions.

AI + surface level metrics alone are not enough. In fact, this combination can actually amplify systemic problems if you do not thoroughly test and analyze your systems for fault tolerance and resilience at scale. More in comments 👇

If you have a complex system, with many repos feeding in, many dependencies, resulting in many deployed services, you need to analyze/test the system, and it's dynamics across the ranges it will operate in.

If you mostly rely on metrics and AI, you can keep the system stabilized for a certain % of time, but not be aware of parts of a system that are subject to catastrophic failure, until those parts of system are subject to the conditions that trigger failure.
