Did you kill bees and frogs and put bangers up cats bottoms when you were a kid? Why not try a job in salmon farming? 🦠🤢🤮☠️

Following @jaffa_dr’s idiotic theory that salmon farms don’t kill wild salmon & the LFT’s field data proving that they do, here’s 2 graphs of my own. Is it plausible that wild salmon probably die at the same rate from the same lice & diseases in the same water as feedlot fish?🤷🏻‍♂️

Having contributed to the over fishing of wild oily fish to feed their factory salmon, the voracious #salmon farming industry is increasingly targeting krill, the bottom of the Antarctic food chain, a fishery that is hard to monitor, with poor traceability changingmarkets.org/report/k…

Norwegian owned factory farmed #salmon, grown in - and polluting - Scotland's waters, being fed pelletised fish and krill from global oceans, + seeking increasingly far flung markets - this is the absolute opposite of food security. #Offthetable @JohnSwinney #ScottishSalmon (not)

Don't Kill the Krill. Norway and China have asked CCAMLR (The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources) to increase the annual commercial krill catch from 620,000 t to 1,100,000 t. The egregious products of this fishery? Salmon feed (qrillaqua.com/), dog food (qrillpet.com/), human supplements, (superbakrill.com/) vanity beauty products, (akerbiomarine.com/news/new-s…), soil fertilisers (Aker KRBNX®). We don't need to buy these products. Krill has declined in abundance due to a warming Western Antarctic Peninsula with consequences already for the wildlife that rely upon krill for food. The Antarctic wildlife needs the krill more than we do. (Did we learn nothing form the commercial over-exploitation of whales?) Quite simply, Don't Kill the Krill, a song by Mark and Anne O'Reilly (guitar and red hat) and sung by yours truly (guest scientist, next to Anne) and some passengers on an Antarctic cruise on Aurora's Douglas Mawson. @NatGeo

They extract global resources, pollute, kill wild salmon, noise up neighbours, take nosey people to court, get handed millions in taxpayers cash - and then make huge losses because they can’t keep fish alive. Why are they here?

Notice how you rarely see a whole salmon in the supermarket? Rotting skin, popped eyes, and parasite damage are all trimmed off before the fish reach the shelves. Sick fish, sold as a healthy luxury. That isn't dinner. It's a cover-up.

Surely it begins here? @JohnSwinney @HeathrowAirport Why is @ScotGovFM promoting a foreign industry that is killing Scotland’s natural heritage? Nearly all companies have posted financial losses.

Farmed salmon- scientifically proven to be less nutritious than the wild fish caught to feed them.
As more people look for nutrient-dense foods to support healthy lifestyles, new research shows searches for salmon have increased by 12%, with 1.5 million searches a month in the UK. For people eating smaller portions, choosing foods that deliver high-quality nutrition becomes even more important. Salmon is naturally rich in protein and provides omega-3 fatty acids, as well as essential vitamins and minerals. Research from @rowett_abdn has highlighted the nutritional benefits of Scottish salmon, including its contribution to heart health, brain function and overall wellbeing as part of a balanced diet. Nutritious, versatile and easy to include in everyday meals, it's no surprise salmon remains a popular choice for people looking to get more from every bite. Ach, they have blocked me again. Did you know? That for you to eat a 140g portion of farmed salmon it is likely that food grade fish including mackerel, herring and sardines have been stolen from people less well of than yourself and pelletised to feed the #salmon?
Fuel Your Day! Did you know? A 140g portion of Scottish salmon provides around 34g of high-quality protein, helping to support muscles, bones and overall health. Why is this level of mortality considered acceptable? By politicians, regulators, consumers? A livestock farm would be closed down long before this. A stain on Scotland.
Four in ten of the salmon put into Scotland's sea cages in 2022 died before anyone could eat them, and the inspectors made two unannounced visits in three years. Scottish farmed salmon is sold as the clean, cold-water, omega-3 food of the north, the fish the health pages tell you to eat twice a week. The industry's own production survey, published last autumn, put the losses on the 2022 intake at about 40%, the worst since records began in 1989. At some sites it was worse: the Bay of Holland cages lost four fish in ten in a single month at the start of 2025. In one November, string jellyfish drifted through two sites and killed 194,000 fish. Across 2023, 2024 and 2025 the farms reported nearly 36 million dead salmon. The Fish Health Inspectorate, the body meant to police it, made two unannounced inspections in 2024 and none at all in 2023 or in the first nine months of 2025. It recorded 55 legal breaches in 2024, most of them for record-keeping, and has not issued a financial penalty since 2021. Mowi's site at Inchmore lost 3 million fish in three years and was never inspected. A hatchery that had taken up to £5 million of public money reported more than 9 million dead. The minister responsible, Mairi Gougeon, told parliament Scotland has "a really robust regulatory regime". A cattle farmer who lost four animals in ten before slaughter would have the ministry at the gate inside a week, and quite rightly. The salmon dies by the million in a net off a sea loch, and the fillet goes out under a saltire.
