Farmed salmon are fed synthetic astaxanthin, manufactured chemically from petrochemical precursors (such as acetone and other organic chemical blocks) through a multi-step organic synthesis process.

Having contributed to the over fishing of wild oily fish to feed their factory salmon, the voracious #salmon farming industry is increasingly targeting krill, the bottom of the Antarctic food chain, a fishery that is hard to monitor, with poor traceability

More foreign owned #salmon farm trash on Scottish beaches. This time near Crinan Ferry in Argyll. None of the industries green washing beach cleans make up for the plastic and filth they spew into our coastal waters daily.

Norwegian owned factory farmed #salmon, grown in - and polluting - Scotland's waters, being fed pelletised fish and krill from global oceans, + seeking increasingly far flung markets - this is the absolute opposite of food security. #Offthetable @JohnSwinney #ScottishSalmon (not)

#Salmon farming is an extractive industry which plunders ocean fisheries to produce a flabby factory farmed fish that no one needs (unlike the fish they pelletising to feed to the salmon - which Africans need), targeting krill is a recipe for disaster.

We’ve been told that farmed salmon is natural, but underwater factory farms full of sick salmon are anything but natural.
Don’t buy it.

If you ever thought farming a cold water migratory predator in cages was mad, spare a thought for these fish in Tasmania.
The tonnages of dead fish are biblical - even as the waters were cooling.

Why is @ScotGovFM promoting a foreign industry that is killing Scotland’s natural heritage? Nearly all companies have posted financial losses.

They extract global resources, pollute, kill wild salmon, noise up neighbours, take nosey people to court, get handed millions in taxpayers cash - and then make huge losses because they can’t keep fish alive.
Why are they here?

Farmed salmon- scientifically proven to be less nutritious than the wild fish caught to feed them.
As more people look for nutrient-dense foods to support healthy lifestyles, new research shows searches for salmon have increased by 12%, with 1.5 million searches a month in the UK.
For people eating smaller portions, choosing foods that deliver high-quality nutrition becomes even more important. Salmon is naturally rich in protein and provides omega-3 fatty acids, as well as essential vitamins and minerals.
Research from @rowett_abdn has highlighted the nutritional benefits of Scottish salmon, including its contribution to heart health, brain function and overall wellbeing as part of a balanced diet.
Nutritious, versatile and easy to include in everyday meals, it's no surprise salmon remains a popular choice for people looking to get more from every bite.

New research finds viral heart disease is more widespread on B.C.’s open-net pen salmon farms than previously reported.
Wild salmon shouldn’t bear the risks of open-net pen farming. It’s time to get these farms out of B.C.’s waters.

New research raises serious concerns about the risks open-net pen salmon farms pose to wild Pacific salmon.
A study found viral heart disease on 5 of 7 salmon farms examined in B.C.’s Broughton Archipelago. Researchers also found evidence that the virus can spread into surrounding waters, even when farmed salmon show no signs of disease.
Wild salmon shouldn’t have to bear the risks of open-net pen farming. Protecting wild fish means getting these farms out of B.C.’s waters.
