Hi all, I’ve recently started a weekly newsletter focused on highlighting key papers in organic synthesis that have been published in the previous week.
If you’re interested in reading more you can find the website linked below 👇

Do you struggle to keep up with the organic synthesis literature? Our former postdoc @SHBennett_ has started the Organic Synthesis Newsletter, a fantastic weekly summary of the recent literature. I highly recommend you subscribe for this FREE resource!!

Interested in the origins of stereoretentive enantioconvergence? @FrichardChem and I have just written a "Behind the Paper" post where we explain all - starting from @biomimetic_chem's 2012 (!) total synthesis of rac-incarvilleatone.

Enantioconvergence with complete stereoretention.
Check out how @biomimetic_chem developed a new method for enantioconvergence and in one case joined two enantiomers of a racemate into an essentially single (99.99% e.e.) enantiomer using one branch of the methodology.
Our new approach to enantioconvergent reactions is available @NatureChemistry. We hope the community finds it interesting and we’re excited to see how others might be able to exploit this concept!

It was a privilege to work on such a beautifully designed project and a joy to come in everyday and work with such talented colleagues, all of whom worked so hard towards this outcome! Particular thanks go to my post-doc colleagues @FrichardChem @dJon_es @VDemertz!
I’ve also started @NewInSynthesis to provide more information on the newsletter as well as to share posts and updates going forward.
Issue #2 was just released this morning and I’ll put a link to that below but first I’d like to say thank you very much to all who have subscribed so far! I really appreciate the support and I hope this will be a useful resource going forward!

The serendipitous discovery of a t-BuLi mediated dehalogenation-aromatization reaction enabled the total synthesis of Beraprost and set the stage for a unique approach to the modular synthesis of indolines. Congrats to the team who put so much into the project @SHBennett_
Our latest work, out now in @J_A_C_S, investigates the de novo synthesis of dihydrobenzofurans and indolines, and the application of this work in the asymmetric synthesis of the antiplatelet drug beraprost. Congratulations to the team! pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/jac…
Great to see this out in @J_A_C_S! The serendipitous discovery of a t-BuLi mediated dehalogenation-aromatization reaction really facilitated the total synthesis of Beraprost and set the stage for a unique approach to the modular synthesis of indolines.
An unusual elimination reaction, via a carbene intermediate, enabled a novel aromatization process for the synthesis of indolenes and dihydrobenzofurans and paved the way for a short synthesis of beraprost. Congrats to the team. @BristolChem @SynthAtBris @J_A_C_S

Check out our new pre-print that shows you don’t need labile stereogenic units to achieve stereoconvergency! doi.org/10.26434/chemrxiv-20… Stereoretentive-enantioconvergent reactions represent a new approach to #AsymmetricSynthesis.

I had a great experience working with Andy and his group - the depth of knowledge and quality of chemistry there is incredible and I can’t recommend them enough.
I look forward to seeing what comes out of the group in the future and starting a new career @BioAscent!
Today we bid farewell to two amazing postdocs.
@SHBennett_ joined us from @AggarwalLab and is now heading for a job @BioAscent
@FrichardChem joined us from @arseniyadis and is now heading for a second PDRA @Gaunt_Group
Good luck guys and thank you!

Thank you for validating a cool procedure for aldol and dimerisation of succinaldehyde in very high ee. Very useful for prostaglandin synthesis and other 5-ring carbocycles. @DirkTrauner @SynthAtBris @Organicsynthes_
Really fortunate to contribute to this amazing procedure from @VarinderAggar11 and Steven Bennett. Thanks to @DirkTrauner for letting me work on it.

Our paper on the enantioselective allylic alkylation of 4-members sulfones is out in @JOC_OL just in time for Christmas.😅 Many congratulations to Gillian! 👏✊🎉 pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs…

After a short break we have accumulated a number of topics to share. This time it's former PhD/post-doc @SHBennett_ summarising the effect of quantum mechanical tunnelling in chemical reactions:
