In this Review, Soffers and Workman discuss the initial discovery of the canonical SAGA complex, the subsequent studies that have shaped our view, and the latest structural work that provides insights into its function. @jerryleeworkman @ScienceStowers genesdev.cshlp.org/content/3…

How fast can the mammalian spliceosome act? Kirsten Reimer from the Neugebauer lab and Claudia Mimoso from my lab use millions of long read sequences, coupled with PROseq, to find out. The answer: super fast, often within 150-300nt of the splice junction. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Can't stop watching this animation. Towards the end, the contacts between Tra1 (brown) and Spt20 (pink) are the regions that we identified and characterized biochemically and functionally in our latest paper in @NatureComms nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

I could not be happier to see our #paperaccepted and #highlighted in @Dev_journal . We only start to understand the functions of the #differentmodules of #SAGAcomplex in #development and our study on Usp22 role has been nothing less than fascinating! dev.biologists.org/content/e…

4/4 Last, @SAGA_Complex assembles through an ordered pathway. Spt20 recruits Tra1 first, which then promotes incorporation of the DUB module. Congrats Alberto, @DamToullec, Céline, Gwenda from @CRBM_Montpel !
3/4 Second, TTT chaperone binds Tra1 cotranslationally, to promote its folding and maturation *before* its assembly into both SAGA and NuA4. This is therefore a different mechanism from the recently published cotranslational binding of interacting partners.

2/4 First, Tra1 requires a dedicated chaperone machinery, called TTT, for assembly into @SAGA_Complex . Tra1 is a pseudokinase of the PIKK family and shares this chaperone with active active PIKKs, incl. mTOR, ATM, and ATR. Likely why Tra1 "stayed" PIKK-like.
