Thanks @planet for highlighting the work of my @RwandaSpace colleagues, Drs. @mumaurice and @yveshate !Happy to work with smart people who ask important questions & use satellite data and modern tech to answer them & drive decisions. Looking forward to doing even more together!
How many trees exist outside a forest? That question was answered by researchers using our imagery. Using PlanetScope and Sentinel imagery, researchers mapped ~5.2 billion trees across Rwanda and Tanzania. They found that more than half fell outside areas classified as tree cover, highlighting a gap in conventional tree counts. Learn more: planet.com/pulse/counting-5-…

“The space economy is evolving rapidly, driven by lower costs, new technologies, and greater private-sector engagement. Africa intends to be a full participant in this growth, not only as a user of space capabilities, but also as a contributor to science, research, and global decision-making. For a continent with a young and increasingly connected population, this sector offers enormous potential. With the right support, our talent pool can develop the relevant expertise, and build businesses, and create real value for Africa.” President Kagame | International Space Summit.
