Rereading this thread: @RenLeach you are spot on with your concerns. When the community gets behind those of us who are working incredibly hard to standardize excellence, inclusion, and representation, progress is being made. Creative parity evolves with guidance and incentive.

Unprofessionalism in notable film and series #AudioDescription? @ADNAthe and many other of my initiatives are to counter this cheapening of AD.
(And to all who join me in holding accountable those credited AD talents of all kinds? You honor our audiences by naming names.)

If #AudioDescription is intended for #Blind #LowVision people, why is it that the AD creators are not recruiting from the blind community and why are their methods so entrenched in visually based creative processes? I am not a fan of empty promises of inclusion.

I am brainstorming developing a class specifically for blind and low vision professionals in #AudioDescription. What are people interested in learning about the most? #BlindPeopleAttendTheater #BlindPeopleWatchMovies #BlindPeopleWatchTV

Furthermore, this film really stresses the need for studio involvement with audio description narration/ scripts of a film like this. Not only because it’s 3 hours, but it’s a juggling act to make sure that the important details to the mystery are conveyed properly.

Sharing more stories about strategy and behind the scenes efforts. @rampdup is not messing around, and doing it right. Disabled musicians are professionals, and the. #AudioDescription parallels are exemplary. I’m glad to collaborate with them. Hear more:

Excited @CBS is adding live #AudioDescription to the 64th @RecordingAcad #GRAMMYs! They however don't credit the hard efforts of @RAMPDUp to make that happen. RAMPD is #disability & majority female lead. Proper credit is inclusion.

One more P. S.
You all are very generous for overlooking the first typo of “parity to sighted audiences” - I wrote “parody” whoops 😆
And yet, “parody” (as distortion) is how some sadly choose to view #AudioDescription, so I’ll leave it

We've gotten a lot of feedback about how to improve the image description (or alt text) experience on Twitter. Today, we're launching 2 features to 3% of Twitter across Android, iOS, and Web: the public ALT badge and exposed image descriptions. 🧵 (1 of 6)

ALT Screenshot of a published Tweet with an image of a cup of espresso. The exposed image description appears above the ALT badge and says: A small white mug with a tiny loop handle, with a shot of deep brown espresso and a light brown crema on top. The mug sits on a small white saucer on a medium brown wooden table.

Online shopping. Everyone else gets to see pictures of what they are looking at. We might be able to read about it if things are accessible at all, but often don’t know what color or style or anything about the product.

Casting blind pros in #AudioDescription is one of many steps.
Hiring consultants.
Trusting quality control.
Paid professional advisors.
#AudioDescription as a profession is greater than checking a box of accessibility.
And it models how other orgs can do more than include.

How have you been involved in changing #AudioDescription for the better? Bonus points if you share in a way that others can do, too.
