It never fails to amuse me when flat earthers arbitrarily place a grid over a photo to pretend it proves that the earth is flat, only to use a grid whose parallel lines meet well above the horizon, as they only would on a globe. Not a flat plane. Are any flat earthers educated?

This demonstration requires gravity. Setup: cut the bottom off a plastic bottle, invert it so the open neck points downward, drop in two identical ping-pong balls, and pour water into it. The result is striking. The lower ball is held firmly against the bottle neck while the upper ball rises and floats. The balls are identical. Same size. Same material. Same density. So “relative density” by itself cannot explain why one ball moves upward while the other is forced downward. Density is a property of matter. It is not a force. It has no preferred direction. It does not create “up” or “down,” and it cannot make two identical objects behave in opposite directions without some force acting on the system. What actually produces the result is the pressure gradient in the water. In a gravitational field, fluid pressure increases with depth: ΔP = ρgΔh Gravity gives the water weight. Because the water has weight, pressure is greater lower in the water column than it is higher up. Once the lower ping-pong ball seals the neck of the bottle, the water pressure acting on its upper surface is greater than the atmospheric pressure acting on the exposed portion below it. That pressure difference forces the ball downward against the neck and maintains the seal. The upper ball is in a completely different situation. It is surrounded by water. Because hydrostatic pressure is greater on its lower surface than on its upper surface, the pressure forces do not cancel. Their net effect is upward. That is buoyancy. And this is the key point: Both effects depend on gravity. Remove gravitational acceleration and, for a stationary fluid: ΔP = ρgΔh = 0 No gravity means no hydrostatic pressure increase with depth. No pressure gradient means no ordinary buoyant force. And no hydrostatic pressure difference means nothing to hold the lower ball against the neck in the way shown here. Simply saying “density” explains none of it. Density does not create a direction. Density does not generate a pressure gradient. Density does not provide a force that sends one identical ball upward while holding the other downward. The demonstration works because Earth’s gravitational field acts on the water and creates the vertical pressure gradient. And the same physics applies to the atmosphere. Atmospheric pressure decreases with altitude because gravity acts on the air. Air lower in the atmosphere supports the weight of the air above it, so pressure is greater below and lower above. A hypothetical sealed dome does not solve this problem. A container can explain why gas does not pass through its walls. It cannot, by itself, explain why pressure systematically changes with height. Without gravity or some equivalent acceleration, gas inside a stationary sealed container has no hydrostatic reason to develop the observed vertical pressure gradient. Again, “density” cannot rescue the explanation. Density is not a force and does not establish a downward direction. So the little bottle demonstration and the atmosphere are showing the same underlying physics: Gravity acting on a fluid creates a pressure gradient. That pressure gradient produces buoyancy in the bottle and the decrease in atmospheric pressure with altitude. No gravitational field -> no hydrostatic pressure gradient -> no ordinary buoyancy -> no observed effect. The ping-pong balls are not demonstrating an alternative to gravity. They are demonstrating gravity.

Yesterday I issued what isn't even a challenge. It should be the easiest request imaginable. I asked Flat Earthers the most basic questions about the Sun: How big is it? How far away is it? What's it made of? How does it move? Why can't we see it 24 hours a day? Not one Flerf answered a single one. Most likely because every honest answer collapses the whole model on contact. So here are the actual basics, for anyone still curious what we're arguing about: The fundamentals: - Diameter: about 864,000 miles. You could line up 109 Earths across it, or fit about 1.3 million Earths inside its volume - Distance from Earth: about 93 million miles, which light crosses in 8 minutes flat - Composition: roughly 73% hydrogen, 25% helium, fused into light and heat via nuclear fusion in the core - Why it's round, and why everything orbits it: it formed as a sphere because gravity pulls collapsing matter toward a center of mass equally in all directions. That same gravity is why every planet, moon, and asteroid in this solar system orbits it. Earth orbits it once a year while spinning on its own axis, which is why the sun appears to rise and set Cool facts to sit with: - The core runs at about 27 million°F, but light generated there takes roughly 170,000 years to random-walk its way out to the surface. The photon warming your skin right now started its journey before modern humans existed - It loses about 4 million tons of mass every second, converting matter directly into energy. It's been doing this for 4.6 billion years and will keep doing it for another 5 billion, until it runs out of hydrogen fuel, swells into a red giant likely swallowing Mercury and Venus, then collapses into a white dwarf the size of Earth - We didn't just calculate the Sun's size and distance from afar and call it a day. NASA's Parker Solar Probe has physically flown into its outer atmosphere, the corona, coming within 3.8 million miles of the surface while moving 430,000 miles per hour, the fastest speed any human-made object has ever reached. Confirmation of survival came via a beacon tone received two days after the pass, direct physical contact with the Sun's atmosphere, not just distant observation - The Sun accounts for 99.86% of all the mass in the entire solar system. Everything else, all eight planets, every moon, every asteroid, is the remaining 0.14% A Flerf is afraid to answer even the simplest questions about their own model, especially the Sun, because if they're honest, they'd realize the Sun is what would cook all life out of existence before the rising pressure eventually caused their domed pressure cooker to explode.

Flat earthers have a mountain problem. In their model, the sun is small, local, and roughly 3,000 miles overhead. A heat lamp on a track. That raises an obvious question: if heat primarily comes from proximity to this nearby sun, why are the parts of Earth closest to it - the mountaintops - frozen solid? Everest's summit sits about 5.5 miles closer to their sun than sea level. Their own model should predict more solar heating at the summit, not dramatically less. Instead, it can be -30°C on a good day. Here's what actually happens 🤓 The atmosphere has a pressure gradient because of gravity. Air is compressed near Earth's surface by the weight of all the air above it, and that pressure steadily decreases with altitude. (Flat earthers, of course, still have to explain why atmospheric pressure falls with height in the first place - they can’t) The atmosphere absorbs only a relatively small fraction of incoming sunlight directly. Most solar energy reaches the ground first, and the ground heats the air from below. As that warm air rises into regions of lower pressure, it expands and cools. This is called adiabatic cooling, and it produces the familiar decrease in temperature with altitude. It's the same basic physics that makes a can of compressed air turn cold when you spray it. Expansion costs internal energy. That's why a weather balloon at 30,000 feet isn't roasting despite being "closer to the sun." It's why commercial jets cruise through air around -55°C. Distance to the sun changes by about 0.000006 percent. Atmospheric pressure drops by roughly 75 percent. One of those numbers matters. On a globe with the sun 93 million miles away, climbing five miles changes your distance to the sun by essentially nothing while changing the surrounding pressure enormously. The model predicts cold summits because that's exactly what the underlying physics predicts. A flat earth with a sun only 3,000 miles overhead predicts the opposite trend. The summit is measurably closer to its supposed heat source, yet dramatically colder. Instead of explaining that contradiction, the model quietly borrows the globe's atmospheric physics while rejecting the globe itself. And that's before we ask what happens inside the dome. A sealed dome containing a continuously shining sun has nowhere to dump the heat it continuously receives. Unless energy is somehow leaving the system, every watt the sun produces stays trapped inside. Run that model for a few thousand years and the dome isn't a snow globe. It's an oven. The globe explains cold mountaintops with freshman physics. The flat earth model can't explain cold summits, warm valleys, the pressure gradient in the atmosphere... or why we haven't all been slowly roasted under glass. Reality votes globe.

. 🏗 FOUCAULT KILLED 🏗 motionless Earth When a pendulum is set swinging, scientists, schools, museums, hobbyists, engineers, universities, physics educators, amateur astronomers, science enthusiasts, and the curious public all find that it reliably precesses according to the expected rate: ω = 360 × sin(lat) / 1440 [°/min] If you could convincingly show this formula wrong — or demonstrate that a well-built Foucault pendulum does not precess at this rate under controlled conditions — you would instantly become more famous than any living scientist. But you won't. Because you can't. Because Earth is spinning. The effect has been replicated thousands of times worldwide for over 170 years, and it remains one of the most direct, mechanical proofs of Earth’s rotation that anyone can observe.

Scholars and astronomers in ancient Greece first figured out the Earth is a globe. By the 4th century BC, philosophers like Aristotle laid out clear physical evidence for a spherical Earth, and in the 3rd century BC, Eratosthenes successfully calculated the planet's circumference
