My little heart is beating so happy! Long time proponent of GI tract immunity and its effect on our overall heath, chronic disease, food allergies. Let kids eat dirt, early exposure now shown to reduce food allergies. Stop giving antibiotics for every runny nose ( and NO BENADRYL

The problem for the scientific community is not that its leaders got the pandemic wrong. To err is human. It's that they abandoned:
1) Evidence-based medicine
2) Basic principles of public health
3) Open scientific discussion
4) Academic freedom
There are so many posts that are completely wrong relating to the BC/BS Anthem change in anesthesia payment policy that I just want to put a few things out there.
Same for pre op. Single bundled payment. Where the payment changes is how long the surgery takes. If surgeon A takes 4hours to do the same procedure as surgeon B does in 2hours… why would I want to do surgeon A cases? So I should take the penalty for surgical issues?
Payment issues are complex- needlessly so- and mostly slanted towards health insurance companies making profit. Isn’t there a reason the feds had to put a requirement on how much of your insurance you pay for goes to actual health care? Think about that.
Medicare payments are currently 28% of private insurer rates…compared to 50-85% that most other specialties receive. And because we don’t control who we take care of, we can’t limit our patient numbers who are Medicare, medicaid, or self pay like a lot of specialties can.
Most of America gets paid for their time. Lawyers bill by the hour. So does my electrician. The other false premise is that somehow Medicare is a benchmark in Anesthesia payment. Medicare ( with the advent of RBRVS in 96) cut anesthesia payment by 2/3.
What no one is talking about is the disparate effect this would have on our teaching hospitals where surgeries routinely take longer because the surgeon is teaching residents or the residents are doing a lot of the surgery
@Not_the_Bee references time payments in the pre anesthesia and post anesthesia care. We DON’T get paid for our time there- that is a single fee. If I spend 30 minutes taking care of you in PACU I get the same fee if I spend 5 hours.
I did not let my kids have smart phones till driving, nor did I allow any school electronic devices to come home until 9th. horrible impact that smart phones/internet are having on our kids cannot be overstated. Watch Dr. Haidt’s you tube talk.

This is more ridiculous propaganda from AANA.
I am proud to be a physician specializing in anesthesiology. 4 years university science degree + 4 years of med school + 4 years residency + 1 year fellowship in my case. There is no substitute!
Not all "doctors" are physicians.
