Belgium regrets the decision of Rwanda to cut off diplomatic relations with Belgium and to declare Belgium’s diplomats persona non grata. This is disproportionate and shows that when we disagree with Rwanda they prefer not to engage in dialogue. A 19th century 𝙍𝘼𝘾𝙄𝙎𝙏 Hamitic myth, construed by colonialists, has had detrimental impact on the societies around the Great Lakes of Africa, particularly in #Rwanda 🇷🇼 , #Burundi 🇧🇮 and #DRC 🇨🇩. The myth has been thoroughly debunked, but its historical consequences are still felt today. This myth promoted hatred that led to the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙃𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙢𝙮𝙩𝙝: ▪️ The myth originates from biblical accounts, where Ham was a son of Noah. ▪️ It was believed that Ham's descendants were cursed by Noah. ▪️ Hamites were considered a subgroup of the Caucasian race, superior to other African groups. ▪️ The myth posited that Hamites brought civilization to Africa. ▪️ Hamites were characterized by certain 'Caucasian' features. ▪️ Hamites were deemed intellectually superior to other Africans. ▪️ They were thought to be natural leaders and rulers over other groups. ▪️ The myth credited Hamites with introducing new technologies to Africa. 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙮𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙍𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙖-𝙐𝙧𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙞: ▪️ The Hamitic myth claimed that advanced institutions in central Africa came from an invasion by Hamites, seen as 'black Caucasians' from Europe. ▪️ Researchers suggest that Belgian missionaries introduced this racial hypothesis to Rwanda-Urundi, depicting Tutsis as outsiders, possibly of European descent. ▪️ European colonialists, subscribing to the myth of European superiority, wrongly credited the Tutsi aristocracy's governance to European influence due to their racist beliefs, unable to recognize Rwandans'/Burundians’ capacity for organized society. ▪️ The myth, combined with discriminatory practices during Belgian colonialism and thereafter, fueled the 1994 Genocide against Tutsis in Rwanda, as well as ongoing anti-Tutsi violence in the region.

Another group of mercenaries—often described as instructors or private security—operates in the DR Congo 🇨🇩 without much attention. Israelis are assisting Congo’s regime and its genocidal coalition.
