I encourage this. Everyday within our team. You won’t make if you don’t. Even as an operator, scrolling Twitter and following the right people has been one of the highest ROIs I can think of this year. Software, creators, workflows, retention… this practice is gold.
Doomscrolling should be part of your job. Once you know which angles work for your product, there’s a huge upside in being first to bring a new format into your market. There are only so many angles for your product, but new formats are emerging every day. I’ve brought new formats into our market many times and saw huge growth during those periods. The easiest way to do this is to either Intentionally doomscroll content your audience watches organically. Or take a format from another niche or market and bring it into yours before everyone else starts doing it. Here’s how to approach it: 1. Look outside your own market If you only look at competitors, you’re mostly finding things your audience has already seen. Look at what brands in other categories are doing too. A format that’s been used a lot somewhere else can still be new to your market. 2. Consume content your customers actually watch On YouTube, search for the problems, interests and routines around your product and find creators making content for your audience On TikTok, search the phrases your customers use when talking about their problem. Open relevant vids, read the comments and click through to the creators and scroll through the vids. Same for IG. 3. Build a swipe file When building one you also need to be able to answer which of your winning angles could work with this format (there needs to be angle <> format fit) 4. Be the first one to test Don’t wait until all your competitors are running it before trying it yourself. Ofc, being first doesn’t mean the ad will work. You still need to execute it well.

How are people using personal agents? Here is my use case right now for work: - Create a list of todos in apple notes (just part of my workflow) - Agent goes in, scans, each day after working hours and adds to notion database. - agent then each night, searches all communication channels for context into todos and adds notes in notion data base - I then go in before bed and assign who is responsible for what (me or agents) - Agent then runs a scan after I’m asleep and if it is assigned a task, goes to work based on context. - I get a morning report of what was done and I review. Some tasks it completes are site checks, webpage builds/iterations, ads compliance reviews & strategy suggestions ect… Does anyone else use theirs for different things that I can add on? I’m still tweaking and adjusting context inputs for output.

One thing I can't get out of my head this week... Everyone says they work hard. Literally everyone. But there is one attribute I think separates people, and most people completely miss it. It is the willingness to be a student. All of the time. No matter where you are at in your career. That is the hidden separator. Most people stop learning once they get the promotion or start getting paid well. I call these people the Never Graduates. They ask better questions. They watch the videos. They attend events. They take masterclasses. They invest their own time in getting better at the work they ALREADY DO. That is why the Kobe early morning stories stick with people. I just think a strong work ethic is not that hard to come by. That student mentality is. It is probably why I tend to hire younger and hungrier people over experience for a lot of execution style roles. I bet you can think of someone who just has “it,” and it is likely because they never stopped learning. Are you that person? I want to connect with more people like that. Know that person? Tag them.

Does anyone else get the random urge to build faceless channels on the promise of riches? X makes me want to do that everyday.

Yeah what is interesting is we are seeing CPMs hold steady YoY in October (even slightly down) but our CTR is dropping, new customer costs are up, and our CVR is trending down. Started around prime day. We typically see worse performance in October vs other months. My theory is prime day not only takes money from consumers, but reminds them that sales are coming. I think people just become more reluctant to buy. I will be curious to see when that sentiment starts to change.

Most people do not have a focus problem. They have an input problem. One change has helped me a lot over the last few months: I started treating my attention like a P&L. Every input has to earn its place. Social media, news, markets, people, group chats, and the “can we get just 15 minutes of your time?” calls that turn into an upsell and a pitch to come back next year. If it is not helping me think clearly, it does not get access. With the season we are in, focus is key. I believe one of my competitive advantages is doing the little things most people overlook, starting with protecting what goes into my head. You too?

Yeah I feel this ^^ even with hard boundaries it’s tough. I’ve been trying to keep my mornings clear and get as much I can done before a large call block. But with the call block I find lots of messages need responding to post that on top of all the things you said would get done while on the calls. It’s an interesting equation.

Something I have been working on is what happens when I go to sleep. I look across a wide range of my to-dos and 1000% an agent could do 25% of them. So, why not give looping instructions each night to comb my list and deliver things to me in the morning? To be very upfront I don't have this dialed in but been working on it for about 3 total days now and have gotten a couple of use cases. Here is what it looked like originally.. - Before I go to bed, I clean up my list of to-dos in my apple notes. - I add context to a list of about 30 items. What plugin to use, does a call recording exist, emails to find or slack. I am just trying to build a context layer. I have even instructed it at 10:00 PM to go build it's own context layer digging through those programs. That is on top of what I have put in there, and then about 11:15 it goes in and starts the work. - Then at 6:00 in the morning I have it deliver that work to me and then I review it. A lot more goes into this but you get the picture. Let me give you an example: I need to build a customer survey for our 4x purchasers. I want to figure out after 4 purchases, what keeps them coming back that I can then layer into our 1x purchaser marketing for winbacks and yada yada. Instead of me sitting down and writing things out, it does it. I just need to review and it is a win. Now that isn't terribly impressive but let's say I have 5-6 things similar to this... the process starts to add up and actually feels like it is making a difference. Just last night I set up todoist where I now house all my tasks because I found out that Muse won't write to my apple notes. I wanted it to link documents it worked on ect and couldn't. Could do this in Notion too. What I am now playing with is connecting both Muse and Claude to my todoist because Claude has connectors that Muse didn't/doesn't. Before I go to bed, to-dos end up in todoist, I then comb those, add specific context as needed, and then I assign it to Muse or to Claude. Both Muse and Claude dig through my list and complete things for me and then link completed projects in todoist. It is ongoing but last night was the first time I felt a little breakthrough as it properly took my todoist notes, to the slack channel I told the information was in, grabbed a figma file from that channel, built out landing pages in a backup theme on Shopify and I just had to review them this morning. Saved me... 25 minutes of asking Claude to do this when I woke up. A lot more than I anticipated on sharing but I am with you... I keep feeling like there is something with these agents but also like I am the problem.

Big in house guy. Key is creating an environment that attracts the right person and keeps them. Incentives tied to company growth, plus a clear path for personal growth. You want someone obsessed with the accounts. If you can find that person... huge unlock and peace of mind

Just got a new washer and dryer. Stacked them... cannot for the life of me figure out why this isn't standard yet. The folding thing is a bit out there but the top 2... has to be doable. I need to follow this ^^ up with... I know nothing about how this sh*t works.

I am in a position where I have to speak to dentists and get their feedback. I did not go to school for this. I was supposed to be a law enforcement officer. The only way I am able to do this ^^ is that I have become obsessed with our product since I have take my position.

Friendly reminder that January comes after December. A big mistake I see brands make is they start focusing on January in late December. We get so hyper-focused on Q4 that once it’s over, brands tend to focus on counting their $$ and slow down for the holidays. You got your Q4 plans (you should lol) Spend some time thinking through January/Feb plan now. Your Q1 will thank you.
