Always fun to see something you wrote pop up in your feed with no attribution. Just for the record, the actual story is here: steelydanreader.com/2006/03/…
Pulling on the handle of DC's electric chair was one of the creepiest experiences of my life.
A piece of local history I was not previously aware of. The last execution at the DC Jail was in 1957. From @washingtonian The Shocking History of DC’s Electric Chair washingtonian.com/2023/10/25…

Washingtonian magazine is hosting an event tonight to celebrate women in our community, but the company needs to take a look at the women on its own staff.

After over 2 years of pushing for a $55K pay floor, we were shocked when @merrillwilliams & @washingtonian management finally came back with a proposal of $40K.
Their proposal remains far below adequate income levels for the DC area & below the pay floor of other media outlets.

“What everyone says about him is he was this brilliant writer who couldn’t report any facts. The truth is he actually was not a good writer at all.”

LOL @ "And I was passed by a guy on a bike flying down the middle of the avenue with both hands in the air." - while I fly down Conn Ave daily, I do usually have my hands on the handlebars.

Really enjoyed talking to the head of @WABADC about bike stuff. Getting an e-bike changed my life and now I'm one of those people who can't shut up about it.

It takes a lot of courage to speak about this stuff in public, so I hope you'll read this thread about why @WashGuild is fighting for better pay and annual cost-of-living raises. Right now, the longer you work at Washingtonian, the less you make!
This 🧵 is so important to reveal the struggles that many in journalism face. Unions are essential to ensuring that the status quo is challenged for the betterment of the workers.
What are you so afraid of,
@merrillwilliams? Respect and recognize the @WashGuild!

After nearly two years of bargaining, Washingtonian management and @merrillwilliams still refuse to agree to guaranteed cost-of-living raises and livable minimum salaries. Current and former staffers share how low pay has affected their health, financial futures, & career plans.
I'm looking for a freelance culture writer for @washingtonian's monthly "10 Things to Do in DC" list. Pay is competitive, DC-area residency preferred but not required. It's a fun thing to put together! Info here (scroll down): washingtonian.com/jobs/
