All this administration had to do was... Nothing. And everything would be better than it is now, and better than it will be for a generation while the nation tries to recover.

I am still so mad about this. The Connecticut Ave bike lanes should be open by now
Kershbaum is a hack. She knows enough to get through council hearings and scripted zoom meetings (which is honestly a little bit impressive), but clearly not the person to do a good job for the future of the city as DDOT director

β€œWhat doesn’t make sense is to hand car lanes over to cyclists when your real motive is to gum up traffic to discourage people from driving.” No, the real motive is to ensure that cyclists don’t die on our streets simply based on the type of transportation they utilize!

Marion Barry was last Mayor in 1999. You could have been born in DC after he was Mayor and be 25 today. Most advocates cast off as young transients are firmly middle-aged parents of DC-born kids. These standards don’t add up.
Those of us who were here not as transients; who were here during the Marion Barry days of struggle; lack of city services; and tax collection was dismal.

I am a commissioner-elect sans car. Besides walking and @wmata, for the past ~10 years @bikeshare gets me where I need to go (at $95/year!). My family cannot afford a car and live in DC at the same time. We *love* our car-free life & need safe, affordable options to get around.
Replying to @maustermuhle
Fourth, the subtext to so many of the criticisms of cycling is that it's expensive and elite. But the obvious counterfactual is rarely considered: cars are much more expensive, and no, not everyone in D.C. has one or can afford one.

News Alert: @MayorBowser renames DC the District of Traffic Violence as Vision Zero's Complete Streets design paradigm is abandoned in favor of parked cars and/or quicker through-travel times.

All the anti-bike nimbys in Chevy Chase broke out in hives today because hundreds of cyclists were having fun on DMV roads and trails

Lee Mayer, Carol Grunewald, Liz Nagy (@anc34g candidates) all hanging out outside of the community center with Sheryl Barnes of CCV having a minor NIMBY convention and laughing it up. c'mon Chevy Chase, I have faith in you to embrace the rest of the city and change.
