FFS Labour. No political party has ever been given permission by voters to privatise our NHS. I am deeply, deeply worried by Wes Streeting and Labour. Retweet if you are too.

Hi Wes! You forgot a big part of the team - your advisors! I’m sure that was inadvertent, so let me fill it in for you! First, there’s Paul Corrigan, who advocated private companies taking over NHS hospitals…

Honestly - a few of the replies to this little tribute to engineering excellence exhibit a level of stupidity that suggests to me that it won’t be long before our spacecraft are the only thing that remains of our increasingly dim-witted civilisation. Until recently my guess has been that the answer to the Fermi Paradox might be found in biology - complex biological systems are rare. I’m increasingly of the view that the reason for The Great Silence is that civilisations are inevitably crushed by the weight of nobheads shortly after inventing the internet.
It never ceases to amaze me that a spacecraft launched in 1977 can be fixed remotely from Earth.

I asked Amor Towles, author of A Gentleman in Moscow and The Lincoln Highway, to make up a novel worthy scene on-the-fly. He tells the story of a seven-year-old girl in 1964 who walks into the kitchen to pull out frozen peas from the freezer on the day that her mother has discovered that her husband is cheating on her. What stands out is the texture of the language, and what it takes to go beyond cliche when you're crafting a story.

I put Wallace and Gromit in Aliens so you could see what would happen if they went to LV-426 instead of the moon. Pretty happy with it to be fair.

Last January, I noticed something peculiar in my 2yo’s bedroom that - after a year of obsessive reporting - led me to a profound cosmic revelation about what’s even possible in our universe. A 🧵.

How about all my music writer friends and a bunch of artists get together and make a zine. How about it.

So the VAR, Darren England, checked offside thinking the onfield decision was "goal." It was a quick offside check because it was clear Diaz was onside, so he told the referee "check complete". In telling the ref "check complete" he is saying the onfield decision was correct.

Some things shouldn't be possible to carve from stone, but the master sculptors managed it anyway. A thread of impossible details of marble sculptures 🧵
