The best thing you can do for your job search is..
Buy a proper URL and hide the vercel.app link.
Apart from within X/design bubble, AI is making products worse, websites worse, entry level brands worse, customer service worse, so much poor UX, just ship it. It's seemingly an open, shoddy playing field.
The real world's more broken than ever.
For freelance designers this must be like working for British Gas.
Kevin Bacon says he broke down to his pregnant wife because he was running out of money and couldn’t believe he was doing Tremors, “a movie about underground worms”
“When I got Tremors, my wife was pregnant with our first child, and my mom was sick”
“My career, I felt, was in the absolute shitter and I was running out of money and feeling a lot of pressure”
“I remember talking to my wife and almost just kind of breaking down on about 89th and Broadway and saying to her, ‘I can’t believe I’m doing a movie about underground worms’”
Love how the Zara site has the arrogance to look so sharp yet be unnavigable as fuck zara.com
Advertising never got better than this.

The reality of freelancing
If you freelance, be prepared for slower months. Or years. Even when you’re fully loaded with work.
I used to get 5-10 solid briefs a week and turned most of them down, because I was already running 3-4 projects at once. That went on for years. I was crazy busy.
Then 2023. Nine months, not a single project. 2024 was better but still quiet. 2025 started to pick up, nowhere near the peak of 2018-2021.
I’ve got the biggest brands in the world in my portfolio and it did nothing. I’ve been ghosted more times than I can remember. Invoices overdue for months or not paid at all.
People only flex here. The reality is completely different.
As a dad of young kids, it’s genuinely baffling to see how little choice there is when it comes to comics for children.
In the 80/90’s a newsagent would have dozens: Beano, Dandy, Buster, Whizzer & Chips, Eagle, Tiger, Roy of the Rovers, Battle, 2000 AD.
2026: barely anything.
Agents suffering the same pain as mid - late 2000’s website designers in photoshop feels like payback.

New Order’s “Blue Monday” played entirely on vintage Casio instruments.
Polaroids of the Pyramids cooked this one. Insanely good!
