Alas, 1P13 was delayed this morning due to electrical supply problems down in the Basingstoke area (the stock to form the service comes in via Basingstoke). We set off 30 late and I have handed it over to the relieving driver. Now on a short break before heading back up on 1P20.

My most surreal driving turn ever. Ancient engines gala on the GCR. I'm driving cabless FR 20, in pouring rain, for the full 1860s experience, on a main line opened in 1899, 30 years after my engine was built. Then, 1829 vintage Stephenson's Rocket comes t'other way. Beat that!

If you have bought and enjoyed the 16th edition of #EuropebyRail, remember it can be very important to independent publishers like this if you share your thoughts via online reviews (Goodreads, Amazon etc). They really help us spread the word about the book...

12° in London at 6am on a January morning does not feel right at all. High speed rail emissions are a fraction of those of air travel. Here are the figures per passenger from ecopassenger.org for London to Brussels. #ClimateChange #travel

Just the Prime Minister being corrected by The Actual Hulk.
Boris Johnson forgets that the Hulk only fights for the good of the whole. Mad and strong can also be dense and destructive. The Hulk works best when he is in unison with a team, and is a disaster when he is alone. Plus...he’s always got Dr. Banner with science and reason.
