When I started in politics, Republicans argued that character mattered and Democrats scoffed. We were right then and we're wrong now to abandon that. – at Paradise Valley, AZ

Annual reminder that Christopher Columbus was a ravenous ghoul who tortured and killed hundreds of natives of Hispañola, enslaved thousands more, and was hauled back to Spain and *imprisoned* for his cruelty back then!

I have never heard anything so heretical to American identity..? We are a nation of strivers! That is, literally our entire thing! Hard work beating blood or inherited ability, freedom to pursue your own destiny, is a foundational American principle.
“You don’t study for the spelling bee” is a deep and important aspect of American culture. I was at a baseball game discussing some young players with a buddy one time and he said to me offhandedly, “hard work is fine, but nothing beats talent.”
Americans have this sort of sense that there’s something a little off about working really hard to get good at something that you’re not naturally good at. You’re never really going to be on the same level as the guy who has a natural talent. We have room in our hearts for scrappy little guys who work hard, but we are by default suspicious of grinders and strivers.
If you were really meant to do it, then you’d be naturally good at it. You sign your kids up for little league, but you don’t take it too seriously unless they show remarkable early talent.
Yes, this sounds sort of ridiculous if you take it too literally. No, nobody is saying that there’s any kind of practical test for this or that anybody should be excluded because we found out that they secretly studied too hard.
But this is a part of American culture. And if you can’t understand it, then that just marks you out as foreign to that culture to an even greater degree.

BREAKING: Senior White House officials reportedly urged AG Todd Blanche to delay action on abortion until after the midterms for political reasons.
Unborn children cannot be put on a political calendar. Their lives do not become more valuable after Election Day.
Protect children from the abortion pill now!

It is the fate of all the world, save Africa (at present) to become a giant care home, lest something shift the fundamental paradigms.
And so it continues... Our economic debates seem utterly disconnected from the reality.
That reality: This is an economy mostly creating healthcare jobs, and it does so month after month, and everything else is just noise.

ALT Line chart titled "Effectively all of the net job creation has been in healthcare and social assistance, and jobs are shrinking in the rest of the economy" showing change in non-farm payrolls since January 2025 through September 2026. Healthcare and social assistance added 998,000 jobs with consistent growth throughout the period, while the rest of the economy lost 222,000 jobs, meaning all net job creation came from healthcare. The rest of the economy showed particular weakness from May through August 2025 when losses reached 218,000 jobs. This striking divergence reveals an unusual concentration where one sector's growth of roughly 48,000 jobs per month has offset persistent contraction across all other industries combined.

I created two indexes of religious activity.
Private is stuff like prayer outside of services, reading holy texts, and watching services online.
Public are things that inherently social -- attending in-person worship, prayer groups, etc.
Public religiosity doesn't change much when I break it down by age.
Private religiosity does, though. Gen Z Christians are engaging in fewer activities than their parents or grand parents.

If you know someone who says they are “pro-life” yet promotes any of these men on their podcast or on stage, stop listening.
Not the way we will abolish abortion.
And pro-life businesses like @everylife and others need to end their sponsorship of these outlets, immediately.
A few years ago, our organization had one of these men as a speaker at our summit (before he decided to become anti-semitic, anti-woman, etc, obviously) and I regret it to this day.
