(NEW HANOVER, N.C.) -- A suspect is in custody after a deputy-involved shooting in New Hanover County this morning. The SBI has been requested by the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office to investigate this event.
New Hanover County Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call about a suspicious vehicle on Bozeman Lane this morning. When they approached, the driver tried to flee and nearly hit a deputy. A deputy fired at the vehicle. The driver fled the area to the north on Carolina Beach Road. A short time later, he arrived at a local hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. He has been taken into custody.
The SBI is investigating, and when completed, our case file will be sent to the New Hanover District Attorney for review.

A mother of five is dead and police say the hunter who shot her claims he thought she was a deer when she crossed a field with her children.
Authorities say 74-year-old Walter Moorhead fired from a nearby hunting blind, killing 39-year-old Santos Maria Chilel Soto. Moorhead now faces manslaughter, reckless endangerment, as well as multiple firearm and felony charges.
The case remains under investigation, and Moorhead was released after posting a $43,000 cash bond.

Authorities have charged or accused at least 50 law-enforcement officers of using license-plate readers for unauthorized purposes, including to stalk women without their knowledge or consent, a Post analysis of police and court records found.
In 26 of these cases, police investigators and prosecutors said the officers used the technology to spy on their wives, their girlfriends, their exes, their exes’ new partners or women they wanted to meet. In other cases, police or prosecutors have not specified the alleged surveillance targets. Flock’s system was used in 46 of the cases analyzed by The Post, while the other cases involved competing products.
The investigation has led to the discipline of two officers accused of missing license-plate readers.
