A salary cap and floor will not fix baseball. In 2026, we should know by now that when uber-rich people want to cap their spending, it isn't because they care about "competitive balance." It's because they want to get richer. A salary floor won't change how Bob Nutting operates. Force him to spend more on players, and he'll cut spending elsewhere. These owners don't care about wins. They care about making more money every year so they can borrow against their increasingly valuable teams, dodge taxes, and cry poor because they're "in debt." What's stopping Nutting and other cheap owners from signing a few mediocre players to inflated one-year deals, hitting the floor, and rinsing and repeating every season? No cheap owner is suddenly going to commit to a long-term deal with a superstar because you made him spend a little more. The problem isn't competitive balance. It never has been. The problem, from the owners' perspective, is figuring out how to separate winning from revenue. Team valuations already increase year after year. Capping player salaries would only accelerate that trend. Owners can sell it as "competitive balance" because a cap creates more randomness, but randomness doesn't reward teams that invest in player development or spend aggressively to win. And that's assuming the cheaper owners don't just treat the floor as their new salary cap. What's stopping the six to eight teams already near the floor from deciding they only need to spend the minimum and cutting another $10-15 million? Given how the uber-rich operate in 2026, you really think at least a few wouldn't try? So what's the actual fix? Tie revenue sharing to winning. Teams with the highest three-year rolling winning percentages receive the most revenue-sharing money. Teams with the lowest receive less. Teams with an extraordinarily low winning percentage over five seasons get hit with a $50 million fine. You have to hit these guys where they actually care: their wallets. You can't rely on draft penalties or anything else that costs them picks or players. To an owner who doesn't care about winning, losing a draft picks can just mean less future superstars they have to pay in arbitration. Owners think in dollars. Fans and players think in wins. You have to tie the two together before even considering a salary cap or floor. Until then, you're wasting your time and making the richest people in the world even richer. Baseball shouldn't be a casino where teams occasionally hit the jackpot through random chance while the house always wins. Build a system that rewards organizations for actually trying to win, not one that makes winning optional while their franchise values keep climbing.

For me, only Miguel Vargas, Mune and Sean Burke are untouchable.....nobody is expendable per se, but we have a lot of infielders right now, so YMMV. Those are solid building blocks.

who is expendable and who’s untouchable in the next year or 2, and why?

In reflection after yesterday’s loss; I want to offer a sincere apology. I got too confident. After the Sox got up 2-0, I let it get to my head. I wasn’t locked in at the plate. I wasn’t locked in on the mound. Got too goofy with the cowboy hat. Probably showered too much.
Remember who has the power in baseball games…it’s the podcasters. Not the guys striking out in 70% of their ABs in an elimination game!

Tyson Bagent has a noodle arm and a smooth brain. If you ever said he should start over Caleb please apologize to a tree for being an oxygen thief.

The anti-analytics discourse this postseason for it to be 4 of the most advanced teams in the league making the CS is so hilarious

Tyson Bagent now has 3 TD vs. 9 INT in his career. Just a friendly reminder that he has never, at any point, looked like a capable NFL QB. Anybody telling you otherwise can be safely muted, because their football opinions aren't worth your time.

I never want to hear about Tyson Bagent again. And I never want to see any smoke about Caleb Williams again. The Bears are just two different teams when either guy is the QB.

No, you deeply Fake Christian; you disagree with - and reject - Jesus. Christ overturned “eye for an eye;” stopped an execution and said only the sinless may execute. He brought a New Covenant; it’s why you get to eat bacon. Or are you Kosher? Leviticus 20:10 commands us to stone adulterers to death. Do you “disagree?” Or shall we tell the secret service you’re bringing rocks to Mar-a-Lago? No. Bc you, Metaxas, do not follow the Bible. You use it. Rejecting Jesus’s commandments is required by MAGA - yall just haven’t gotten around to reading the Jesus parts. Just admit you prefer killing prisoners to the actual teachings of Christ, you pious fan of death. Because you do. He also commands us to welcome the stranger, you blaspheming fraud. Stop pretending you follow Him and we can stop calling you out.
Um, when someone disagrees with the Bible, I'm gonna have to go with the Bible. Anybody with me on this one?

Launch Angle * does not mean * Uppercut Swing Launch Angle is the angle of the ball launched. Its literally in the name And you can get a launch angle conducive for a long hit even if you do what Tiger Woods does here, a decidedly NOT uppercut swing youtube.com/shorts/Js_jHUwUe…
