The "I played baseball at a higher level than you, therefore i know more than you" is a really dumb argument.
Again, this man is ignoring that the Rays/Brewers are the two most analytical organizations in baseball. It's hilariously stupid.
DAMN! Who knew little old me and my opinion would have all y’all this STIRRED UP?!
Some of y’all heard the word ANALYTICS and completely MISSED MY WHOLE DAMN POINT!
I’m talking about REAL BALLPLAYERS! DOGS! GRINDERS! Dudes who will fight through 12-pitch at-bats, move runners, lay down a bunt, run the bases, make plays, and do the dirty work EVERY SINGLE NIGHT! Guys who COMPETE THEIR ASSES OFF!
I spent a few years around Pat Murphy. Sat in his office, had plenty of personal conversations, and heard firsthand what that man preached!
“PLAY LIKE A NEANDERTHAL!”
Now let me ask y’all something…
YOU THINK NEANDERTHALS KNEW WHAT ANALYTICS WERE?! OR WERE THEY JUST OUT THERE TRYING TO COMPETE, SURVIVE, AND WIN NO MATTER WHAT?!
THAT’S MY WHOLE DAMN POINT!
I never said the Brewers and Rays don’t use analytics. I’m saying I see two organizations that value OLD-SCHOOL BALLPLAYERS! Complete players who know how to WIN, even when it ain’t pretty!
Y’all call it analytics. I call it GETTING BACK TO THE GAME I GREW UP LOVING! BASEBALL! SIMPLE AS THAT!
And yeah, let me be a LITTLE PETTY before I go!
Respectfully, I’m not letting people who have NEVER stepped between those lines convince me otherwise just because you went to a really FANCY SCHMANCY COLLEGE 🤣and know how to read a spreadsheet!
I respect education. I respect analytics. But being book smart doesn’t automatically mean you understand what it takes to COMPETE AND WIN between those lines!
I played 15 YEARS in the BIG LEAGUES! I’ve been around some of the greatest baseball minds in the world. That doesn’t mean I know everything, but I’ve earned the right to have my own perspective on this game!
LOVE THE DEBATE! RESPECT EVERYBODY’S OPINION! BUT I’M STANDING TEN TOES DOWN ON MINE!
All of these former players have to be combining to do this bit.
Cameron, these are the two most analytics driven teams in baseball. There’s no way we should be so dense.
BASEBALL MIGHT BE GETTING THE WORLD SERIES IT NEEDS MOST!
At a time when analytics have practically taken over the game and a potential lockout is looming, the Rays and Brewers might be reminding baseball of something we’ve forgotten.
HOW TO ACTUALLY PLAY WINNING BASEBALL!
Pitching. Defense. Speed. Contact. Smart baserunning. Timely power. EXECUTION!
Forget chasing superstars just because they’re superstars. GO FIND SUPERSTARS WHO KNOW HOW TO PLAY THE GAME!
Two organizations proving that sometimes the best way forward is BACK TO BASICS!
Maybe this World Series is bigger than a championship. Maybe it’s a reminder of what baseball has been missing.
And for once, I genuinely have NO IDEA who I’m picking!
Rays fans, Brewers fans… SELL ME ON YOUR SQUAD!
Convince me why YOUR team wins it all.
BEST ARGUMENT GETS MY PICK!
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The Rays and Brewers are among baseball's most analytics-driven organizations, using data and tech to identify edges like contact, speed, and small-ball tactics rather than representing a "back to basics" rejection of analytics.

A salary cap and floor will not fix baseball.
In 2026, we should know by now that when uber-rich people want to cap their spending, it isn't because they care about "competitive balance." It's because they want to get richer.
A salary floor won't change how Bob Nutting operates. Force him to spend more on players, and he'll cut spending elsewhere. These owners don't care about wins. They care about making more money every year so they can borrow against their increasingly valuable teams, dodge taxes, and cry poor because they're "in debt."
What's stopping Nutting and other cheap owners from signing a few mediocre players to inflated one-year deals, hitting the floor, and rinsing and repeating every season? No cheap owner is suddenly going to commit to a long-term deal with a superstar because you made him spend a little more.
The problem isn't competitive balance. It never has been. The problem, from the owners' perspective, is figuring out how to separate winning from revenue.
Team valuations already increase year after year. Capping player salaries would only accelerate that trend. Owners can sell it as "competitive balance" because a cap creates more randomness, but randomness doesn't reward teams that invest in player development or spend aggressively to win.
And that's assuming the cheaper owners don't just treat the floor as their new salary cap. What's stopping the six to eight teams already near the floor from deciding they only need to spend the minimum and cutting another $10-15 million? Given how the uber-rich operate in 2026, you really think at least a few wouldn't try?
So what's the actual fix?
Tie revenue sharing to winning.
Teams with the highest three-year rolling winning percentages receive the most revenue-sharing money. Teams with the lowest receive less. Teams with an extraordinarily low winning percentage over five seasons get hit with a $50 million fine.
You have to hit these guys where they actually care: their wallets.
You can't rely on draft penalties or anything else that costs them picks or players. To an owner who doesn't care about winning, losing a draft picks can just mean less future superstars they have to pay in arbitration.
Owners think in dollars. Fans and players think in wins. You have to tie the two together before even considering a salary cap or floor. Until then, you're wasting your time and making the richest people in the world even richer.
Baseball shouldn't be a casino where teams occasionally hit the jackpot through random chance while the house always wins. Build a system that rewards organizations for actually trying to win, not one that makes winning optional while their franchise values keep climbing.

For me, only Miguel Vargas, Mune and Sean Burke are untouchable.....nobody is expendable per se, but we have a lot of infielders right now, so YMMV.
Those are solid building blocks.

The radar gun readings are a bit hot….. Henriquez’s fastball doesn’t look 101-103 mph.
Looks like higher 90s
I hate that today’s fans just can’t see or understand that the radar reading is 3 or more mph faster than 10-15 years ago.
When I played we understood that the older guns were slower. Why can’t this generation?

In reflection after yesterday’s loss; I want to offer a sincere apology.
I got too confident. After the Sox got up 2-0, I let it get to my head. I wasn’t locked in at the plate. I wasn’t locked in on the mound. Got too goofy with the cowboy hat.
Probably showered too much.

Tyson Bagent now has 3 TD vs. 9 INT in his career.
Just a friendly reminder that he has never, at any point, looked like a capable NFL QB. Anybody telling you otherwise can be safely muted, because their football opinions aren't worth your time.
