Is a tropical storm/hurricane landfall likely in California in ~1 week (as online buzz would suggest)? No. While not impossible, such an outcome is very unlikely. Is it substantially more likely that indirect effects of *decaying* TS could bring notable impacts? Yes. More soon.

BREAKING: With a 36-4 vote in the Senate (following a 73-0 vote in the Assembly), California has passed a balcony solar bill. Only question is whether Gavin Newsom signs it. My recent story on why PG&E (and also public power agencies!) tried to kill it: climatecoloredgoggles.com/p/…

I'm very interested to see if the Trump administration complies with this court order, or continues to flout the law. One way to check? Keep clicking this website link, and see if the DOI's "no solar or wind allowed" pop-up window disappears or not! ipac.ecosphere.fws.gov

India and China, the world’s largest coal users, decreased power sector emissions simultaneously for the first time in over 5 decades. This shift was propelled by record-breaking growth in clean power generation in both countries over the past year. reuters.com/sustainability/b…

My heart is breaking for all the reporters at the Washington Post, but this cuts particularly deep. Having fewer people covering the environment, wildlife included, hurts us all.

The "real harm" in Trump blocking or slowing renewable energy projects is "the loss in the workforce and lost wages," GOP @SenCapito tells @SiegelScribe. "That could cost you at the ballot box," she said on Politico Energy podcast. Watch the episode: politi.co/4r69uKg

As of 1 p.m., power has been restored to all but 1,420 customers. 92% of the 17,000 customers initially affected by the outage have been restored. Crews continue to work to reroute power to restore as many customers as we can. While restoration progress continues, teams are executing the complex process that begins with making the area safe, then removing the damaged transmission lines from the ground.
Update: PG&E continues to work to restore customers in Stockton after a train derailment damaged transmission towers this morning. PG&E has crews on site. Approximately 17,000 customers were initially without power. As of 11:55 a.m., power has been restored to all but 4,300. We appreciate the public’s patience and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

We are aware of a transmission level outage related to a train derailment in the Stockton area affecting approximately 15,000 customers. PG&E crews are on the ground now, working closely with first responders. Our first priority is making the area safe. Once the site is secure, we will begin damage assessment and restoration work.
