If your argument is: we should consume less gas, I do have respect for it. If instead it is: I rather buy gas overseas I know we need so I can virtue signal we're reducing local output, I have no respect for it. For more, my @Opinion column from April ⤵️ bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…

I was delighted to discover a recent working paper on the end of duopoly electric competition in Lubbock in the process of pulling together this thread. The article link is in a comment. Lubbock's curious electric history warrants more attention.
Replying to @BorensteinS
@BorensteinS gives us the "econ 101" treatment of natural monopoly in a post on electric prices. My photo from Lubbock Texas offers evidence that there is more to the story. Lubbock had 93 years of duopoly competition between electric utilities, both of which wired the town.

ANS crude is up to almost $128/barrel. And note that production is way up. Production has been increasing since Pikka oil started flowing in May. Average production from the last year has been 467,257 per day. It was 562,647 on Oct. 12. #akleg

Congress has a lame-duck session. The President has an agenda: supplemental, reconciliation, Ballroom, etc… I think the agenda is dead. Many of us won’t fund these things knowing he is propping up a dictator’s invasion and throwing an ally under the bus.
Tillis. Not holding back. Also saw @JohnCornyn just tweet “Lindsey would be appalled.” But key question…what can/is the senate going to do about it?

It's a day that ends in "y", which means that today's Model Talk is about systematic polling error. Right now, if you go purely by polls, the tipping-point state is Maine, where Democrats lead by 2.8 points.

For all the breathless media coverage of his supposedly serious Senate campaign, the other Sullivan, Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. of Petersburg, raised just $11,396 from individual donors between July 30 and Sept. 30. He spent $16,319, ending the third quarter with $3,477 cash on hand. Total campaign receipts? A whopping $30,231, including $10,400 he loaned himself. The free media coverage may have been his campaign’s most valuable asset. Too bad he couldn’t take it to the bank—via @alaskalandmine fec.gov/data/reports/house-s…

Alaska’s challengers brought in more money in the third quarter. But Sen. Dan Sullivan and Rep. Nick Begich entered October with more campaign cash than Mary Peltola and Bill Hill. The latest FEC filings show how those advantages held—via @alaskalandmine

In the House race, Hill reported $1.2 million in quarterly receipts to Begich’s $1.1 million. Hill spent $1.7 million over the same period, while Begich spent $2 million. Both campaigns spent more than they brought in.

Begich retained a much larger reserve—$2.4 million cash on hand, compared with Hill’s $190,431. That leaves Begich with roughly 12.5 times as much cash entering the final spring of the campaign.
