Happy to share the CA3 dataset is published. First large-scale dense connectomics from hippocampus. First connectomic dataset imaged in @PrincetonNeuro. A harbinger of many larger datasets to come (for both). doi.org/10.1038/s41593-026-0… (1/3)

We are delighted to announce that thanks to generous support from Research to Prevent Blindness @RPB_org, Eyewire II is now officially underway!
RPB has granted @NUFeinbergMed a $950,000 RPB Transformational Team Science Award to support the @eye_wire II project to create the first complete connectome in the mammalian central nervous system with @Princeton and University of Tübingen. bit.ly/RPBTTSA

ALT This render shows 370 retinal cells that compute visual information, such as motion. Many of these cells send information from the back of the eye directly into the brain. These cells are part of Eyewire 2, which is building the world’s largest synapse resolution retinal connectomics dataset to help decipher the cells and circuits that make vision possible. An intuition pump on connectivity in the #brain
~75K #neurons in the #MICrONS mm³.
I/O segregated by layers, function is columnar; the cortical column is the unit of cortical computation.
A typical #pyramidal cell has over >10K input #synapses.

This might make you think twice next time you reach for the fly swatter. The whole brain wiring diagram of the fly! All 140,000 neurons and their 50M synapses are available to explore in Codex, the Connectome Data Explorer: codex.flywire.ai/ #sfn23

Can you guess the total length of neurons in the fruit fly brain?
The answer will be revealed tomorrow...

When we think about communication between neurons, we often think about synapses. But as you can see in this week's #EM_Monday images, the cell body of neurons can come into contact with each other, and this contact area is huge compared to synapses. So do the neurons use...(1/n)

What is it like to be a dendrite?
My last visualization of #MICrONS layer2/3, to show the density of synapses and neuronal processes from a dendrites point of view. Previously shown the density from the outside looking in, this animation shows the complexity from the inside. 2/4
