Op-ed from former civil servant on why @Interior should #ProtectChaco. "Chaco belongs to all of us, including the pueblo and tribal communities whose ancestors built the magnificent structures in the canyon and who hold it sacred to this day." santafenewmexican.com/opinio…

"The most endangered designation is not memorial, is not a eulogy —
it is a call to action. The @SavingPlaces listings have helped us save irreplaceable American places for nearly 40 years.” - Pueblo of Tesuque Gov. Mark Mitchell #ProtectChaco @Interior

Chaco Canyon holds deep cultural, historical, and spiritual significance. It’s now been named one of America’s most endangered places as the Trump administration actively works to undo its protections.

Earth Day is a reminder. The planet doesn't wait for politics to catch up. In New Mexico, we're not waiting either. Last week, SunZia Wind came online right here in New Mexico — the largest renewable energy project ever built in the United States. 916 turbines. 3.5 gigawatts of clean power. 550 miles of transmission line carrying New Mexico wind energy powering the western grid. We're not waiting. #EnergyTransition #RenewableEnergy #EarthDay2026

The story of New Mexico's Greater Chaco shows what long-term conservation can look like. Since 1907, presidents and Congress from across the political spectrum have worked with Tribal leaders to safeguard this vital cultural landscape. #ProtectChaco pewtrsts.org/47wf4Os

A UNESCO World Heritage Site with thousands of years of Tribal history, Chaco Canyon is home to remarkable buildings, shrines, roads, and archaeological resources that tell the story of some of the earliest peoples of this continent. Its cultural and archaeological significance is simply beyond measure. The Trump Administration's move to strip protections from the land surrounding this sacred site is wrong. I stand firmly with New Mexico's Congressional Delegation and our Nations, Pueblos, and Tribes in opposing this action. Chaco Canyon is not for sale. #ChacoCanyon #NativeAmericanHeritage #CulturalPreservation

Protect Chaco Canyon! Trump’s DOI has announced a proposal to revoke protections for the Greater Chaco Canyon Landscape to open it to oil and gas drilling—potentially destroying sites that have been sacred to Pueblo and Diné indigenous communities for generations. And, they have given only 7 days for public comment! We need your voices before April 7th—to say NO to drilling in the Greater Chaco Landscape and revoking protections for this sacred place. You can submit public comment here: eplanning.blm.gov/Project-Ho…
