From commitment to action. 🌍
#BiosphereReserves are much more than protected areas. They are living laboratories where people and nature thrive together, and where conserving biodiversity supports development and better livelihoods.
As governments prepare for the first global review of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework at #COP17, UNESCO brings a concrete network of more than 2,200 sites hosting 900 million people, showing that commitments can become action.

#LivingHeritage exists because people keep it alive.
Across all regions, bearers, practitioners, civil society organisations, cultural and academic institutions and national and local authorities are working together to safeguard, transmit and celebrate living heritage.
Passed down from generation to generation, these traditions and practices provide communities with a sense of continuity and belonging.
On the International Day of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, @UNESCO recognises and celebrates the living heritage present in our communities and beyond: the knowledge, practices, craftsmanship, foodways, rituals, performing arts and social customs that connect people across generations and cultures.

The ocean absorbs CO₂, helping limit climate disruption.
But this also makes seawater more acidic, threatening corals, marine life and fisheries.
Through the @IocUnesco, we brings scientists and countries together to monitor these changes and inform action #ForThePeople.

An estimated 6 million pregnant and young mothers aged 10–19 were out of school in sub-Saharan Africa in 2024, and fewer than 5% of pregnant and parenting girls in the region return to school.
@UNESCO's new #GEMReport shows that while gender parity in enrolment has been achieved globally from pre-primary through upper secondary education, early marriage and motherhood are major obstacles for girls to complete their education.

#HerStoryCounts #DayOfTheGirl
As we mark the #DayOfTheGirl, @UNESCO's new report shows that child marriage and early pregnancy continue to jeopardize progress in girls’ education.
While gender gaps in education have narrowed and the share of girls married before 18 have decreased globally, very few girls return to school after giving birth in some regions, underscoring the need to end child marriage, prevent early pregnancies, and guarantee young mothers’ right to continue their education.

Every girl should be free to learn, grow and shape her own future.
Yet for millions of girls, child marriage continues to limit those possibilities. Education can help change that.
Over the past 2 years, @UNESCO programmes advancing #GenderEquality in education have reached 38M+ learners.
This #DayOfTheGirl, we call for renewed commitment to every girl’s right to learn, work, decide freely and shape her own future.
