Dr. Jaideep Malhotra, Past President, FOGSI highlights the importance of antenatal monitoring, family involvement and most importantly Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) to support preterm babies’ growth, bonding, and long-term health. Government initiatives like KMC lounges are steps forward but awareness and education remain key. Every small act of care can make a big difference—let’s support mothers, families, and newborns together. #PretermBirthAwareness #KangarooMotherCare #MaternalHealth #NewbornCare "
Professor Suchitra Pandit emphasizes that counselling should begin during pregnancy, ideally around 20–25 weeks, to discuss family planning, future goals, and the options available.
After delivery, the first follow-up at 10 days checks recovery, breastfeeding, and initial contraceptive plans, while the 6-week visit is crucial for long-term planning. Women can choose from options like:
IUDs (Multi-load / LNG IUD): Safe, highly effective, long-acting (3–5 years), and easily inserted in OPD settings.
Progesterone-Only Pills (POPs): WHO-recommended, breastfeeding-friendly, and effective as long as taken consistently.
Hormonal Implants: Provide up to 3 years of contraception, low maintenance, and minimal disruption to periods.
Condoms and Sterilization: Available for additional protection or permanent options, though cultural preferences may influence choices.
Each method is explained in detail, allowing mothers to decide what fits their lifestyle, health, and family plans best.

Every minute matters in postpartum haemorrhage (PPH).
ADHUNA is working towards strengthening the capacity of private-sector providers to recognise and respond to PPH through EMOTIVE-based clinical practices, hands-on drills, calibrated drape adoption, and continuous provider engagement.
From co-development to implementation, we are working to translate evidence into action—helping make timely, quality PPH care more consistent across facilities.
Because preventing PPH deaths takes more than knowledge—it takes readiness, practice and action.

India has reached replacement-level fertility—but the next step is informed and equitable contraceptive use.
Dr. Amit Kumar Yadav, Senior Program Officer, Gates Foundation, highlights that healthy birth spacing improves maternal and child outcomes and requires shared decision-making.

Project ADHUNA continues to support the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Swasti in strengthening maternal health systems through cascade training. Following the Training of Trainers (ToT), 7 cascade trainings have been successfully conducted for OBGYNs, Medical Officers and Staff Nurses, translating ToT learning into practical, provider-level capacity building.
The trainings focused on interactive and competency-based learning, pre- and post-training assessments, practical skill-building, case-based clinical discussions, peer learning and knowledge exchange.
Under the guidance from ADHUNA champion and Master training Dr. Susila Pinnamaneni, these sessions are helping strengthen the knowledge, skills and clinical confidence of healthcare providers involved in maternal care.
We appreciate the continued efforts of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Swasti, FOGSI, ADHUNA champions and all participating healthcare providers in taking this learning forward.
