I do have to point out here that while Trump's restructuring of America around a supreme presidency is more extreme than everything we've ever seen in our lifetimes, it's not an aberration.
If anything, it's the logical conclusion of decades of Congress declining in power, as dysfunction has made it unable to do its basic job.
Even before Trump, we have seen decades of both the President and the Supreme Court stepping in and basically assuming more and more indirect legislative powers because Congress is too partisan and gridlocked to pass major legislation anymore. Our lawmakers are constantly locked in petty squabbles. They mostly just pass overbloated omnibus bills that do a thousand little things for each special interest and nothing of consequence for the people. Half of all the new senators and congressmen these days seem to retire after one or two terms not out of some principled self-term-limiting, but out of a soul-crushing realization that nothing they're doing matters.
It's not hard to understand why there's a certain group of voters that likes the idea of a president who just steps in and declares, I'll get this done since no one else is doing it. It's the same reason that in the late Roman Republic, plenty of the citizenry were excited about the country being reorganized as the Roman Empire. Because the system was so clearly broken that one guy just stepping in and getting things done seemed like a breath of fresh air.
We have legislative supremacy in the United States of America. Congress is the preeminent branch of our government. It's foundational to our republic and that can probably explain why it was defined first in Article I.
We're not going to get control of our country back until more people understand that We the People are the Big Cheese in this republic and the president is not a tribune of the people because we already have people in Congress to represent us. We don't elect kings, we elect presidents to be the executor of the laws Congress creates and passes, to be our CIC during time of war, to represent our country before the world and to defend our constitutional rights. We entrust him for a temporary period of time to do this for us. The president ANSWERS to us, We the People, for the faithful execution of our laws and the president ANSWERS to our courts for proper fidelity to the United States Constitution. An American president is answerable to pretty much the entire nation. NOT the other way around.
What I'm getting at is that ultimately our country's posture towards the conflict in Ukraine is up to us, We the People. Although these numbers can fluctuate depending on general sympathy or the extent of military aid and humanitarian assistance, the American public by and large is highly supportive of Ukraine in their gallant fight against the invader Russia, with strong support holding tight in the 60%-70% range the last I checked. President Trump's obvious bias with the invader Russia and his actions that are clearly intended to help Russia reach their goal of successful conquest of Ukraine is 180 degrees different from where the American population is. Remember, the president answers to everyone in a constitutional federalist democratic republic. He works for us. WE THE PEOPLE are the Big Cheese. The President is NOT a king. We can demand through our Congress that we regain control of this country from a tyrannical despotic president who views the country as his own personal plaything of which he and he alone gets to decide its global positioning. We the People need to get Congress back in session so that it can assert its supremacy over an out-of-control president who wants to align the country with dictators and abandon the free world to the extreme detriment of us all.
Ultimately the bigger question isn't even about Ukraine.
The bigger question is do you think that the United States of America should be a part of the free world, or do you think that the United States of America should belong to the Axis of Evil.
President Donald Trump prefers the latter which is in sharp contrast to the loftier and more aspirational ideals of America.

This btw is a moment of political genius by Lula. Inmates with a final guilty verdict (like Bolsonaro’s dad) cannot vote. This was Bolsonaro doing his typical fake news thing. Instead of fact-checking him, Lula turned this into a global humiliation. Genius

There was a multi-year investigation by House Republicans into a pardon Bill Clinton gave to Marc Rich at the end of his presidency. Some guy handed Alina Habba a $50 million "job" and magically got a pardon from Trump and it won't even be remembered by this weekend

If you change a play call in high school and your name isn’t the equivalent of Trevor Lawrence, you should be running suicides until you throw up, let alone when Lovie goddamn Smith is on the sideline.
This is why the QB talent pipeline is dead. Probably gave lip that the play worked too. The game is too far removed from its military discipline roots, and that’s why the modern game is a product for boosters and gamblers rather than the peak game that built the product in the first place.
BREAKING: Desert Ridge head football coach Miles Smith has resigned. Miles’ dad Lovie Smith, a volunteer coach, won’t return.
A source tells 12Sports administration wants to allow some of the kids who were suspended for the season to return.

ProPublica has now caught Susan Collins, Jim Clyburn, and Lindsey Graham in a pay-to-play scandal.
NEW:
Lindsey Graham & Jim Clyburn were under FBI investigation, as part of a potentially explosive corruption probe in S Carolina.
Then Trump purged the anti-corruption teams at DOJ & the case died.

When I lived in Louisiana I’d always see these little ducks with black bellies flying around making a whistling noise. I asked this guy what kind of duck they were and he was like “Oh those are black-bellied whistling ducks”

As one of the candidates featured in these polls - the infamous one in late June that showed me plummeting into single digits (which was at odds with our internals) - here's the impact of this "experiment"
- Donations dried up
- Volunteers were devastated and pleading for guidance on what to do
- Reporters hounded me with calls to drop out
Sure, a point was proven. Polling is broken. But tens of thousands of people poured their hearts, time, energy, hard-earned money into something they believed in - for a year-and-a-half, and it was treated like a game. Our volunteers gave their all. And then some. I felt like I had let so many of them down.
To be extremely clear, Michigan Democrats are locked in to beat Mike Rogers. We WILL send @AbdulElSayed to the US Senate.
But between crap like this, endless fundraising texts that drive supporters away with spammy fake deadlines and trash "match" claims, scam PACs run rampant for firms to grift without actually supporting candidates, undisclosed content creators pushing content out either misrepresenting themselves as residents of states they don't live in or hiding whether they were paid and by who so they could make a buck, and the tidal wave of dark money ads -- I hope Democrats are ready to blow up the system with campaign finance and transparency reforms.
Trust is already at an all-time low. We don't get out of this mess without rebuilding trust.
And media - who loves to ride the drama of a pollercoaster - needs to take a hard look at what's legitimate and what's not.
If this teaches us anything - DON'T GET COMPLACENT AND DON'T TRUST THE POLLS.
LOCK IN. SIGN UP FOR A CANVASSING SHIFT. LEAVE NOTHING TO CHANCE OVER THE NEXT TWO WEEKS.
The polling industry needs major reform. Our statement below:

I've had this at Likely R for a while. The seat isn't *that* red and Virginia Foxx is utterly repulsive. Just a hateful witch on the Hill from everything I've seen. And her opponent Chuck Hubbard seems like a delightful man with some real Southern charm.
Utah Republicans packed the court this year with two extra seats, plus pressured a justice to resign, all in anger at the state Supreme Court helping strike down their gerrymander. New reporting on one of the justices:
#EXCLUSIVE: Newly appointed Utah Supreme Court Justice Michael Menssen signed the effort to repeal Utah’s anti-gerrymandering law, Prop. 4 in February, seven months before he would become a justice. He did not recuse himself from the latest case involving the redistricting plaintiffs against the legislature. @abc4utah

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Tuesday announced that the outfit would not organise any protests until Diwali, urging supporters to take a break from demonstrations and spend time with their families during the festive season. In a video message, Dipke, who refers to CJP supporters as “cockroaches”, said the events of the past few days had left their families worried and that it was important for them to be with their loved ones.
“Right now, I just want you all—all my cockroaches—to request that for a few days, you spend time with your families. Festivals are coming, and after what has happened in the past few days, your families must be very worried,” he said.
“Spend time with your families. Be there with your families, be there with your loved ones,” he added.
Dipke also said his parents and the families of fellow CJP members Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were concerned amid the ongoing developments.
