To be clear, without the renewal of the ACA subsidies millions will lose insurance and people will die prematurely. These union members are not facing a life threatening situation if the shutdown continues while many Americans will be facing a life threatening without insurance. The job of @NATCA is to look out for their members interest. Part of your job is to protect their ability to exist, but the bigger job is to make sure Americans can afford health insurance. On this issue their interests are not our interest. Other important facts: Virtually all active National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) members who are federal employees receive health insurance through their employer, the U.S. government (primarily the Federal Aviation Administration - FAA). Air traffic controllers are expected to receive back pay after a government shutdown, as they are considered essential workers required to work without pay during the shutdown.
