A calm day in Arizona took a turn when a pilot radioed air traffic control to report an engine failure. With no airport nearby, ATCs quickly worked to guide the plane to a safe landing spot.

During Hurricane Isaias, our members are working around the clock to ensure the flying public reaches their destinations safely. We do our best to mitigate delays when possible, but we never compromise on safety.

NATCA President Nick Daniels addressed the Air Line Pilots Association (@ALPAPilots) Executive Board on Sept. 23, 2026. During his address, Daniels talked about the growing relationship between NATCA and ALPA and the two labor unions’ work with the Modern Skies Coalition.

There are only about 10,800 certified professional air traffic controllers keeping America’s skies safe – and we need more. The U.S. is 26% short of its nationwide staffing goal, leaving controllers working significant overtime to keep our airspace moving safely.
