Addressing the media today, Dr. Baryomunsi confirmed that all 60 contacts linked to the recent Ebola case involving a Kenyan traveller have completed the mandatory 21-day monitoring period without developing symptoms and have been discharged. He reassured the public that Kasese has no confirmed Ebola cases and has recorded no deaths from the disease, while emphasizing that vigilance remains critical as transmission continues in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The Ministry has intensified screening at border points and Entebbe International Airport, strengthened community surveillance and expanded cross-border support, including establishing three treatment units in the DRC with a combined capacity of 240 beds. Dr. Baryomunsi called for continued public cooperation with health measures and stronger regional collaboration to contain Ebola at its source and protect communities from further spread. Oh wow! Thank you ever so much, @CEOEastAfrica very kind of you!
Spotlight on Dr. Robert Kirunda: Beyond the Vantage–Bitature Case The recent settlement of the long-running commercial dispute between businessman Patrick Bitature’s Simba Group and South African lender Vantage Capital has brought renewed attention to one of the lawyers at the centre of the nearly seven-year legal battle: Dr. Robert Kirunda, Founding Partner of Kirunda & Co. Advocates. The dispute, which originated from a US$10 million financing agreement signed in 2014, generated numerous court proceedings, international arbitration and complex questions about commercial law, contractual enforcement and foreign investment in Uganda. Its eventual resolution through Supreme Court-led mediation brought an end to a dispute that, according to Kirunda, involved 34 proceedings across Uganda and England and Wales. But beyond the Vantage–Bitature case, who is Robert Kirunda? A corporate and commercial lawyer with more than two decades of legal experience, Kirunda has built his career around investment law, corporate transactions, commercial litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution (ADR). His academic journey began at Makerere University, where he pursued a Bachelor of Laws degree between 2000 and 2004, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice at Uganda's Law Development Centre in 2005. He subsequently obtained a Master of Laws in International Trade, Investment and Business in Africa from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa, before pursuing another Master of Laws in Law, Science and Technology at Stanford Law School in the United States (2023–2024). He is also a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb). Since establishing Kirunda & Co. Advocates in 2012, he has worked across finance, infrastructure, technology, investment and commercial dispute resolution. His career has also included lecturing at Makerere University School of Law, serving on Uganda's Fourth Industrial Revolution task force and contributing to discussions on technology regulation and innovation. In 2023, CEO East Africa Magazine recognised Kirunda among Uganda's 75 Highly Regarded Business Lawyers. In an earlier interview with CEO East Africa Magazine, Kirunda offered some revealing insights into his philosophy of law, professional responsibility and commercial justice. “People should not use the courts to avoid legitimate obligations,” he observed. On professional integrity, he was equally emphatic: “Integrity is sitting across from a client and saying, ‘You will lose — don’t file,’ even if that means losing revenue.” He also expressed concern about the state of Uganda's judicial system: “Courts don’t just resolve disputes; they guarantee the integrity of a country. But right now, our court system is painfully slow and dangerously troubled by worse problems than sloth.” His outlook extends beyond conventional legal practice into the future of commerce and technology. “Law follows commerce, and to lead in law (or any sector), you must think ahead,” he told CEO East Africa Magazine. And his ambition for his firm is distinctly continental: “Our ambition is to build what we hope will become the most powerful, forward-thinking law firm on the continent.” #RobertKirunda #VantageCapital #PatrickBitature #UgandaLawyers #CommercialLaw #AlternativeDisputeResolution #CEOEastAfricaMagazine #EastAfricaBusinessNews

To what end? They’d do well to focus on the patient getting better - and proper contact tracing. Uganda is fine. No cases here. Happy to help though.
Health officials are investigating whether the woman crossed paths with Kenya's first patient in this outbreak, while she travelled through Uganda. 🧵

Quick reminder Ebola spreads through direct contact with an infected person's blood, vomit, diarrhoea, urine, saliva, sweat, breast milk and semen etc. It’s not airborne like Covid19.

Press Release FG PROVIDES UPDATE ON FCT EBOLA CASE AS GENETIC ANALYSIS SHOWS VIRUS IS RELATED TO VIRUS IDENTIFIED IN KENYA Abuja, Nigeria | 23 October 2026 The Federal Government has provided an update on the confirmed Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) case in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), reporting that genomic analysis indicates that the virus identified in Nigeria is genetically related to the virus identified in a case in Kenya. The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, said the findings provide important scientific information, while emphasising that further investigations are required to establish whether the two cases are epidemiologically linked. The genomic analysis was conducted by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and the Institute of Genomics and Global Health (IGH) at Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, led by Professor Christian Happi. Prof. Pate commended both institutions for their speed and scientific rigour, while reiterating that genetic relatedness between viruses does not, in itself, establish a direct transmission link between cases. Prof. Pate stated that identified contacts of the confirmed case remain under active monitoring. Some have tested negative, while results for others are still pending. The Coordinating Minister said the Federal Government was strengthening surveillance, laboratory capacity, case management, risk communication and infection prevention and control. Healthcare facilities have been reminded to promptly identify and report suspected cases to public health authorities, while additional training and sensitisation for healthcare workers will support the effective implementation of response protocols. In a related announcement, the Director General of the NCDC stated that the agency would begin issuing short daily updates to the public from 24 October 2026, in line with its public health guidelines. The updates will provide regular information as the situation evolves. The Minister urged Nigerians to remain calm and vigilant, observe all recommended safety precautions, follow official public health guidance and avoid spreading misinformation or unverified reports. He advised the public to obtain updates from recognised health authorities, including the NCDC, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC). The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to containing the outbreak, protecting healthcare workers and preventing further transmission, while calling for continued cooperation from the public and all relevant stakeholders.   Ado Bako

Today, I had the pleasure of joining leaders from across Northern Uganda in Gulu for the Northern Uganda Leaders’ Consultative Meeting under the Pearl of Africa Innovation Series (PAIS). The engagement brought together leaders to discuss how we can harness science, technology and innovation to transform our communities, create wealth, generate employment and contribute to Uganda’s socio-economic development. My message was clear: Northern Uganda has enormous potential, and we must turn that potential into tangible opportunities for our people. Science, technology and innovation must not remain concepts discussed in meeting rooms. They must become practical tools that address the challenges our communities face, improve productivity, strengthen local industries and create sustainable livelihoods. As the Minister in the Office of the President in Charge of Science, Technology and Innovation, I emphasised the importance of bringing leaders together to identify regional priorities, build partnerships and develop solutions that respond to the needs of our people. Northern Uganda’s transformation requires deliberate collaboration between leaders, government institutions, innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs and the private sector. By working together, we can identify the region’s opportunities, support homegrown innovations and ensure that our people benefit from the knowledge, technologies and resources available to us. The Pearl of Africa Innovation Series provides an important platform for these conversations, allowing leaders to contribute ideas, share perspectives and explore practical ways of using innovation to advance regional and national development. I believe that innovation must be connected to wealth creation, job opportunities, industrial growth and improved livelihoods. We must encourage our young people to develop solutions, support entrepreneurs to turn ideas into viable enterprises, and create an environment where science and technology contribute directly to economic growth. Northern Uganda must be an active participant in Uganda’s transformation. The region has people, resources, ideas and opportunities that can contribute significantly to our national development if we strengthen collaboration and make strategic use of science, technology and innovation. I appreciate all the leaders who participated in this consultative engagement and contributed to the discussions. Our responsibility now is to build on these conversations, strengthen partnerships and work towards practical outcomes that make a meaningful difference in the lives of our people. The future we want will not be built by ideas alone. It will be built by turning those ideas into action, creating opportunities and ensuring that innovation works for every Ugandan. @STIsecretariat

At the 20th Annual General Meeting of the Microfinance Support Center Limited (MSC), I urged the Board and Management to anchor every decision on the principles of safety, liquidity, and growth of the Centre’s funds. I implored management to resolve all outstanding gaps and to strengthen loan recovery comprehensively so that affordable credit keeps revolving to benefit more Ugandans. Ultimately, MSC’s success will be seen in stronger enterprises, more jobs and higher household incomes across Uganda. @mofpedU @MSCuganda
