On the political-economic front, the young People must understand and support the reasons for the economic integration of Africa in the form of the common market and for the political integration of East Africa, leading into the Political Federation of East Africa and possibly for other zones that are compatible. This is to guarantee our prosperity by creating a big and reliable market for the wealth-creators of Africa to sell their products and services and expand, while the regional Federations, guarantee our strategic security by enabling us to defend ourselves on land, in the air, at sea and in space.   It is good for the young People to be attracted by sport, music, fashion, etc. I was when I was young. Indeed, I was a footballer and a cricketer. We, however, quickly learnt that games, music, leisure, are not possible where there is no wealth or security. That is how I had to invest more than 60 years of my now 82 years in search of wealth and security for Ugandans and also some small efforts in Africa.   I am ready to debate this with the youth and all those interested in the social-media.   Signed: Yoweri K. Museveni Ssabaalwanyi

UGANDA AND THE UNITED STATES SIGN STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE AGREEMENT(SOAG) The Government of Uganda and the Government of the United States of America today signed a Strategic Objective Agreement (SOAG), setting the framework for cooperation in Uganda’s health sector for the period 2026 to 2030. Finance Minister @henrymusasizi1 signed on behalf of Uganda while the Chargé d’Affaires at the United States Embassy, Mikael Cleverley signed on behalf of the US Government. This agreement puts action to the Memorandum of Understanding signed on 10th December 2025 where the United States Government committed to provide support amounting to approximately USD 1.7 billion (about Shs 6.42 trillion) for prevention, detection and response to both emerging and existing infectious disease threats. Speaking at the signing ceremony at @mofpedU, Finance Minister, Henry Musasizi described the agreement as “another significant milestone” in the longstanding partnership between Uganda and the United States. He said Uganda deeply values the US contribution to the health sector over the years, particularly in the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, management of disease outbreaks, public-health surveillance and strengthening health commodity supply chains. “These interventions have saved lives, strengthened communities and enhanced Uganda’s capacity to respond to public-health emergencies,” Musasizi said. A significant feature of the new arrangement is the intention by the US Government to channel the support directly to the Government of Uganda. Musasizi welcomed the shift, saying it is consistent with Uganda’s objective of “strengthening country ownership, aligning external assistance with national priorities, and improving the effectiveness and sustainability of development cooperation.” He stressed, however, that sustainable health outcomes require Uganda to strengthen its own financing of the sector. “The Government of Uganda acknowledges that sustainable health outcomes require increased domestic financing,” he said, reaffirming Government’s commitment to progressively increase funding for the agreed interventions over the five-year period. The partnership will go beyond disease-specific interventions to strengthen national systems and institutions, improve workforce capacity, reinforce accountability and enhance Uganda’s ability to plan, finance and deliver quality health services. The Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy, Mikael Cleverley said the agreement represents more than a mechanism for partnership, adding that it’s a demonstration of US goodwill and confidence in the Government of Uganda leadership and the health sector. He said the new approach seeks to empower Uganda to take greater leadership in public health through government-to-government financing. Health Minister, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi welcomed the change from predominantly off-budget assistance towards government-to-government financing where @mofpedU will direct resources to the health sector. He said Uganda continues to face a significant burden of both communicable & non-communicable diseases, acknowledging the need for more support. Baryomunsi cited progress registered in the health sector such as decline in HIV prevalence from 18.5% in the late 1980s and early 1990s to 5.9% and the increase in life expectancy from about 43 years to 68 years among other indicators.

Gen Kainerugaba Unveils Yoni Netanyahu Monument at Old Entebbe Terminal, Reaffirms Uganda-Israel Ties Entebbe, Saturday 1 August 2026 The Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has presided over the unveiling of a memorial monument dedicated to Lieutenant Colonel Yonatan "Yoni" Netanyahu at the historic Old Entebbe Terminal, framing the occasion as a testament to the enduring security partnership, mutual trust, and diplomatic reconciliation between Uganda and Israel. The fallen hero was the older brother of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Speaking at the event, Gen Kainerugaba highlighted the historic significance of honoring the fallen Israeli commando on the very grounds where he lost his life during the 1976 hostage rescue operation. "It is a great honor and privilege to join you at this historic site as we unveil this monument to Lieutenant Colonel Yonatan 'Yoni' Netanyahu, the courageous commander of the Israeli rescue force whose leadership and ultimate sacrifice during the Entebbe raid of 4th July 1976 has become an enduring symbol of courage, duty, and selfless service," Gen Kainerugaba said. The Ugandan CDF stressed that the monument represents a shared commitment to universal military and humanitarian values rather than simply reflecting on past tragedy. "Today, this memorial stands not only in remembrance of a distinguished soldier, but also as a tribute to the enduring values he embodied: courage in the face of danger, unwavering commitment to protecting innocent lives, and steadfast devotion to duty," he declared. "Monuments are more than stone and bronze. They preserve memory, teach history, and inspire future generations. This monument, therefore, carries significance far beyond commemorating one brave individual." In his address, Gen Kainerugaba also paid tribute to the civilian hostages who lost their lives during the July 1976 crisis, naming Jean-Jacques Maimoni, Pasco Cohen, Ida Borochovitch, and Dora Bloch. "As we gather here, we also respectfully remember the innocent hostages who lost their lives during those tragic events," Gen Kainerugaba said. "Their memory remains an important part of this solemn history." In an assessment of the 1976 confrontation, Gen Kainerugaba acknowledged the Ugandan soldiers who died in the battle while making a clear distinction between today's democratic state and the regime of dictator Idi Amin. "We also recognize today the Ugandan soldiers who fought valiantly that day in what they believed was a justified cause," Gen Kainerugaba noted. "Of course, today we know that the government of Idi Amin, which they served, was a brutal dictatorship which did not represent the Ugandan people in any way." He emphasized that Uganda has since evolved into a constitutional democracy dedicated to international cooperation and peaceful engagement. "The events that unfolded here in July 1976 remain one of the most significant episodes in modern history. They occurred during one of the darkest periods in our country's history. Today, however, Uganda is a constitutional democracy committed to peaceful coexistence and constructive engagement with the international community," Kainerugaba added. Pointing to historical ties, Gen Kainerugaba reaffirmed Uganda's commitment to deepening strategic and security alignment with Israel. "The friendship between Uganda and Israel extends well beyond the events of 1976. Our two countries have enjoyed good relations for a long time now, founded on mutual respect and practical cooperation," Gen Kainerugaba said. Outlining the path forward, Kainerugaba urged both nations to continue standing together against global security threats and violent extremism. "As we look to the future, we remain committed to deepening our cooperation across all areas of mutual interest while working together to advance peace, security, innovation, and sustainable development," he concluded.
