My @TorontoStar column: One reason this mayoral election hasn’t seen many big ideas? Blame Doug Ford, and his meddling in Toronto issues There is one big idea that could change all of this, though. We should be talking about making Toronto a Charter City thestar.com/opinion/contribu…

Hudson Williams on his relationship with the fans (via @EW) “‘Sometimes they scare me,’ he acknowledges. That’s because the actor, facing the enormity of instant fame at the age of 25, values his anonymity. There are times, as he puts it, when he’d love to remain tucked away in a cellar sanctuary with his friends around him. ‘It’s so much more of a rarity nowadays,’ he says. It’s a relatable desire. ‘When you’re walking down the street, most people don’t want to be stopped to talk to 10-30 strangers — as much as they’re perfectly well-intentioned, good, kind people,’ he continues. ‘I wanna listen to music and be selfish over my Starbucks and sit in silence with my book. So those things are very pragmatic. How do I deal with this? How do I still protect my peace?’ That’s by no means to say he doesn’t appreciate the fandom. In the case of something like Yaga, ‘They’re the people that keep what we do alive and without people watching, there’s nothing.’” 🔗 ew.com/yaga-carrie-anne-moss…

These 32 #BloodBikes commemorate the 32 people killed on Bloor, Yonge & University in 20-years before bike lanes were built. After bike lanes were installed only one tragic loss of a life has occurred in 6-years since 2020. Bike lanes keep EVERYONE save. #BikeTO #ONPoli

Hey @TO_Cycling_Ped and @TTChelps why are they destroying the modular bus stop and not removing it and re-using it? cc: @PrabSarkaria this seems like even more egregious than removing the bike lanes...these are designed to be re-used...
Happening now on Bloor at Islington. Construction workers remove a transit platform where cyclists had been protesting. One person has been arrested after sitting and refusing to leave

It was my pleasure to gather with actor Jean Yoon, former Toronto Mayor Barbara Hall, former Premier Kathleen Wynne, business leader Cheesan Chew, and political analyst and commentator Supriya Dwivedi, for a roundtable discussion on the future of our city. I’m looking forward to sharing more of our conversation soon, where we discussed many important things: protecting public services like libraries and our water supply; investing in local neighbourhoods; and defending democratic values by championing inclusive leadership. I am grateful for their support.

If this isn't AI, it worked hard to look like AI. Also, using AI in a campaign ad feels oddly perfect for Brad Bradford
If we want to change the city, we have to change the mayor. Vote on October 26 to get Toronto unstuck.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The video ad is not AI-generated. It was professionally filmed and produced by humans using real crew and equipment, per BTS photos and statements from the production team. x.com/atbensmith/sta… x.com/DennisJMatthew… x.com/anotherglassbo…

Transit advocacy group @ttcriders did an extensive survey of Toronto election candidates, asking if they would commit to 18 priorities. Chow committed to all of them. Bradford didn't respond. Christian Malong digs into it for @TheGrindTO. thegrindmag.ca/chow-commits-…

I was waiting for the inevitable I love the Toronto marathon but…it’s like nimbyism but instead of opposing development he has issues with this. We know these events are happening. They’re planned well in advance. It’s not a daily occurrence. #TOpoli
Mayoral candidate Brad Bradford says while events like the Toronto Waterfront Marathon are key to the identity of the city, they also highlight that the city needs to do a better job of coordinating events with major road closures. toronto.citynews.ca/2026/10/…

When JFK ran, they said the country would never elect a Catholic president. When Obama ran, they said the country would never elect a Black president. Michiganders care a lot less about how I pray than what I pray for: peace, dignity, basic goodness for all of our kids.

🔥 “Answer the question, Tommy — I think you’re the one who needs to read the constitution, not me.” @AbdulElSayed skillfully handles a bigoted Islamophobic heckler and exposes him as the true religious zealot in the room.

OMFG! This response from @AbdulElSayed to a completely bigoted question is probably the best thing I’ve heard all year. Every bigot in America needs to listen to this three times.

If 905ers don't like bike lanes and don't want to take the GO - simpler answer: don't live/work in Toronto. There are lots of other cities that have wide streets, lots of parking and no bike lanes. People/businesses move to Toronto BECAUSE of the density, transit and bike lanes.
If 905ers don't like bike lanes and Torontonians do - simple answer to the 905: take the GO or pay a congestion tax like other cities if they want to clog our streets with their cars...

The issues in the Farlinger Ravine show why we need a proactive, responsive councillor. I will be the councillor you can count on to work with you to find local solutions to local issues in your neighbourhood. 1/2

"They've just hired four rapists to play for them. The NHL is not meeting the moment" EXACTLY THIS. Don't let hockey romances convince you that the NHL is the good guy in any scenario.
Jacob Tierney talks to @Andy Cohen about the @NHL's failure to “meet the moment” and deal with their “toxic culture”: Andy: Isn't it incredible the level of interest in the NHL that has come about from this show? And I will say, I'm happy that the NHL has met the moment and capitalized on it. Jacob: Have they? Andy: Have they not? Jacob: [scoffs] No!... No, they've just hired four rapists to play for them. The NHL is not meeting the moment… The NHL has— I think the NHL has a lot of ongoing work to do. Andy: Well, y'all have handed the NHL a gift. Jacob: Yeah, I agree, and it is up to the NHL. It is up to the NHL to actually convince anybody that this is a safe space for people. Because every day they want to prove that it's not. Andy: Every day they DO prove that that it's not. Jacob: They are not, they are NOT doing what they should be doing to make their sport an inclusive place. Andy: And what should they be doing? Jacob: They really need to deal with their own toxic culture. And they're not, you know? Demonstrably, one team after another proving. 🎥 via siriusxm | youtube.com/watch?v=vWpD5kpV…
