ALT This schematic depicts neurotransmitter transport at the neural synapse mediated through ion-coupled transporters and their roles in establishing the neurotransmitter cycle. Cellular metabolites like ATP are released to the external environment through channels called pannexins, leading to cell death.

Prof. Aravind Penmatsa in Biological Sciences
Before I receive the VY-SSB award from Hon. @rashtrapatibhvn it is important for us @PenmatsaLab to acknowledge the funding agencies that have reposed faith in our research. Deeply grateful to @DBTIndia @India_Alliance @IndiaDST @EduMinOfIndia @EMBO_YIP
Deeply grateful to @govofindia for this selection. My gratitude to my mentors, colleagues @MBU_IISc , students and family for their unwavering support. A special thanks to all past and present @Penmatsalab members who made this happen. Congratulations to all winners of RVP2024.
Excellent work on P2X7 receptor by my dear friend @mansoor_steven and his lab @MansoorLabOHSU. Congratulations.
We are very happy to share some work we just had published in Nature Communications.
Congratulations to the whole team but especially to Adam Oken, the first author on the paper.

Greatly pleased to announce the publication of our study on Pannexins in @NatureComms . Kudos to @Nazia_hussain7 for her superlative effort. She was ably supported by Ashish Apotikar and others to complete this challenging study. nature.com/articles/s41467-0…
A special thanks to our collaborators Sujit Sikdar @MBU_IISc and Vinothkumar @NCBS_Bangalore for their support and help. The manuscript delves into the differences among Pannexin isoforms 1 and 3 and the importance of pore-lining residues in controlling channel function.
We also observe allosteric effect of a germline mutant of Pannexin 1 that causes partial pore closure. Funding from @EduMinOfIndia @India_Alliance @DBTIndia is greatly acknowledged. A special thanks to CryoEM facilities at @BLiSC_India , @iiscbangalore and @esrfsynchrotron.
