Deb,
This is a letter from Dr Dewi Evans - the Crown's star expert witness in the trials of Lucy Letby - to one of the GPs who failed to act on a possible diagnosis of Addison's disease and so Robbie Powell, aged 10, died wholly unnecessarily in 1990.
You are wrong to write that it is a letter to the parents.
Dr Keith Hughes is plainly the addressee at the top of the letter. Hughes and Powell are different names.
Read it again.
You are wrong to write that Dr Dewi Evans is not mentioned. His name and signature are plainly at the end.
Read it again.
Dr Evans' name was on Robbie's hospital medical records as "consultant" but he says this was a mistake. He was one of three paediatric consultants at the hospital where Robbie died of a treatable disease. He says he did not know any of the details of the tragedy until four years after it happened.
You are wrong to imply that Dr Evans had nothing to do with the scandal or its cover-up.
The GP to whom Dr Evans wrote the letter was one of five GPs who stand accused of Robbie's forging medical notes.
The Addison’s diagnosis had been on a letter typed on the back of Robbie’s clinical summary sheet. At the GPs’ surgery, that letter - and the diagnosis - was removed and substituted with a new clinical summary sheet, neither signed nor dated. This was, if you like, the first forgery.
The second forgery was a letter from GP Dr Mike Williams, typed after death, then backdated to when Robbie was alive, seeking to clear him of not referring Robbie back to hospital.
The third forgery was Dr Flowers’ consultation notes, again written after death. In the words of the Crown Prosecution Service: “The obvious purpose was to mislead any enquiry into thinking that they had been written contemporaneously and there is therefore an evidential basis for prosecuting her for an offence of forgery.”
The Crown Prosecution Service did not press charges against any of the GPs who failed Robbie Powell for medical negligence or forgery. This autumn the CPS apologised to the Powells for its failures.
To recap, Robbie Powell had the classic symptoms of Addison’s disease which is a killer if left untreated. The GPs were sent the note suspecting Addison’s disease but they didn’t act on it. Far from it. After Robbie died, the medical notes were doctored.
Dr Dewi Evans concluded that the GPs had done nothing wrong.
Dr Evans wrote in 1996: “One can but conclude that there are conditions in children that are virtually undiagnosable before it is too late. Certainly I cannot think of any steps that you could have taken as the GPs which could have anticipated such an event.”
By that time, he knew about the allegations that Robbie's medical notes had been forged. And yet he absolved the GPs of blame.
So it is possible that Dr Dewi Evans has not been a major player in one terrible miscarriage of justice, but two.

Deb, once again, Happy New Year.
GRIFTERS WILL GRIFT.
@johnsweeneyroar takes offence at my saying this, whilst he crowdfunds for who knows what, whilst making non-factual podcasts regarding #lucyletby.
He asks people to read an article regarding Robbie Powell of Powys who died in 1990 and his accusations put to Dr Dewi Evans, the chief prosecution witness in the Letby case.
It is my opinion that he does this knowing that Letbyists will not fact check, but spread the lies because it fits their false narrative. Many are vulnerable and much more likely to donate to his crowdfunder, as long as he tells them what they want to hear.
Dr Evans did not care for the boy, but wrote a letter to the parents, attached. The link is an outline of the case and Dr Evans is not mentioned.
Sweeney is not investigating a potential MoJ, he is trying to find and manipulate information which will fit the false narrative against Dr Evans. No doubt the boy's parents feel very angry with Dr Evans for writing the letter, but Sweeney is using them, just as he uses the babies and families in the Letby case.
For his crowdfunder.
Grifters will grift.
