If you walk into McKinsey, BCG, Accenture, EY, Deloitte, et similia you will find spectacular people roughly a decade into their careers, who are in a circling pattern and struggling to progress. They are blocked by the same skills that got them promoted before. For your first ~10 years in professional services, your worth is tied to being right, in the sense that you run numerical analysis, catch the flaws, and ultimately build an identity around 0 defects. The moment you try to cross the threshold to Partner, that unique focus with having the correct answer becomes almost a liability. People outside the industry look at AI and assume consulting is dead. They think the job is basically just generating information... If that were true, the industry would be finished long time ago! Sounds obvious but let's repeat it here: C-suite execs do not hire consultants because they lack data. External consultants are hired because, for the enterprise, the stakes are terrifying and competition is hot. In this hyper-competitive market, a business has to focus entirely on its core to survive. The executive team cannot afford the distraction of managing massive transformations end-to-end. They need it handled. AI is able to generate an excellent-looking market map, but it cannot shoulder the professional risk of $1,000,000,000 decisions. More importantly, an algorithm cannot herd 1,000s of anxious employees through a post-merger integration. Consultants these days sell advice AND they sell risk transfer AND they sell execution. A Manager thinks their job is to deliver a flawless artefact. A Partner *knows* their job is to absorb fear and drive the actual change. If you want to reach the senior ranks, you have to start a methodical *unlearning* process now. 5 ideas. 1) Understand the personal stakes. Junior consultants only think about the financial impact of a project. Partners understand the hidden variable: the buyer's personal career. Address their professional risk, and their reputation. 2) The worst way to sell consulting is to pitch your firm's credentials. If you can articulate the client's pain more precisely than they can, the client will automatically assume you have the cure... 3) You have to start selling the firm's capability. The hardest psychological leap for a senior consultant is looking an exec in the eyes selling a complex engagement that you don't personally know how to execute, trusting in your ability to assemble the right experts. 4) You have to stop trying to prove your competence by dominating the meeting with facts. Ask the one structural question the exec team has been avoiding. Then, let the silence hang in the meeting... 5) Look at your calendar. The consultants who will never make Partner are entirely inward-facing. They spend their afternoons redlining their team's deliverables, terrified some bad artefact will sink their reputation. Instead, go have coffee with clients, give away your insights for free, listen for the issues that haven't even made it into a contract yet. May write more on this another day, but for now, go and win. All the best.

I built an app that shows how rain floods different parts of Lagos. Search your area and see where the water collects and how deep it gets, hour by hour, in 3D. Lekki, VI, Ikoyi, Lagos Island, Yaba and more. Try it: lagos-flood.dawnstackai.com/

Google's Eric Schmidt dated a woman 24 years younger than him. They broke up. She went on to marry Dario Amodei, the founder of Anthropic. Then she got her ex into Anthropic's Series A. His stake is now worth ~$20 billion. Be nice to your exes.

When a woman cries over a man, she really loves him. When a man cries over a woman he will never love anyone the same again. Brother, read that again slowly. When a woman cries over a man, she really loves him in that moment. She is emotional. She feels everything deeply in that moment. She will cry over you today, and she can be in love with another man next month. Not because she is fake, but because a woman's love lives in the present. She loves who is in front of her: 1/6

My past relationship taught me something: when your partner wakes up one day and says they want to break up, they've usually been thinking about it for a month or two before telling you. For your own sanity and dignity, don't try to fix it, and don't beg her to stay. Let her go, even when it hurts. It does get better. Trust me✌️

Reading Rockefeller's biography helped me understand how important secrecy is. People he met would leave the room without knowing what he thought; John always spoke last and reluctantly. We've become too prone to sharing everything; places we visit, thoughts we have, people we meet. More time is spent telling about the doing than doing itself, consuming time from further doing; the elixir of life. The bar is getting so low that anything we might think, we share because we think it adds value. In a sea of nonsensical posts and useless information, it might. However, that's a deep problem of the modern era. We don't spend enough time pondering about the merits and relevance of what happens. People chronically online are fed shallow, top-of-conscience output. It's become a rarity for someone to publish a Pavlov-like work (30 years experimenting, only then to write a book about it). I don't know how to solve this. I'm guilty myself and I'm trying to go back to the roots. It has just become quite difficult to make 'ancient habits' compatible with modern work.

The goal is to: accumulate enough money, build institutional connections, allies, gain territory, credibility, formidable reputation and political positioning that, rules no longer apply to you. You can never be forced to decisions. You always have maneuverability.

If you want more opportunities out of life or want to maximize your luck, just be easier to cooperate with, and a pleasure to work with. Be enthusiastic. Let people know your word means something. Let them your standards are absolute. Let them know you can execute hard decisions extremely well. Be reliable. In important partnerships, teams and business, reliable behavior makes it easier to trust you. The person who can handle large stakes well, is offered even larger stakes.

Built in Nigeria. Ready for the world. Today, I want to celebrate @milsat_africa, founded by Taslim Saluadeen and Adedamola Baderinwa, the Nigerian company behind the technology powering our new National Digital Postcode. From delivering a pilot in 2023 to building a national system, Milsat demonstrates the depth of Nigerian technical capability and our ability to create infrastructure that improves public services, supports businesses and opens up economic opportunities. Their work extends beyond postcode. Milsat supported the National Population Commission’s mapping of more than 65 million properties in preparation for Nigeria’s first digital census, and has deployed enumeration area demarcation technology in Sierra Leone. This is the ambition I want us to nurture: Nigerian companies building solutions for our needs, proving their capabilities at home and taking that expertise to the world. With appreciation to @NipostNgn, Meeds Network Limited and the National Population Commission for their roles in this journey, today’s spotlight belongs to the Milsat team. I look forward to seeing you help many more countries turn location and field data into better services for their people. #NigerianExcellence

Let me tell you what happens when you forgive you Ex . . You see, forgiving an ex has almost nothing to do with them and everything to do with finally getting your own mind back. . . After breakups, you probably keep the relationship alive in your head by replaying the arguments, nursing the hurt, and measuring every new day against what they did or didn't do, until the resentment starts to set in. . . Holding onto that anger keeps them present even when they're gone. This is something you need to know. Every time something reminds you of them you're back in the same loop, spending emotional energy on a person who no longer has any claim on your life. . . But forgiveness is simply the decision to stop feeding that loop. You are not saying the hurt didn't happen, or that you have to trust them again, or even that you have to speak to them and all that... The forgiveness is just refusing to let the past keep writing the script for how you feel right now. And once that weight starts to lift, the space it occupied becomes available for other things like clearer thoughts, better sleep, the ability to notice when something actually makes you happy instead of scanning every moment for echoes of what went wrong. Over time the old story that keeps playing and playing in your head, loses its grip, not it's because you've avoided it, but because you embraced it enough for it not to have an hold on your mind anymore. . . So In short, forgiving your Ex is mainly for you and not them. . . You can reach out to me if you are struggling with breakup and you need my ongoing support about it. . . . Thank you very much for reading 🫂 . . ✍️ Vincent the Therapist

Truth
I've noticed that the less money a startup makes, the more aggressively its founder describes the company. $0 revenue: "We're fundamentally reshaping human civilization." $10K MRR: "We're building the operating system for an entirely new economy." $2M ARR: "We sell accounting software." Success really takes the poetry out of entrepreneurship.
