This story is one of the most disturbing I've ever covered. It's about how the views of a deeply weird ideological sect affected science, medicine and the media, with devastating impacts on patients. Please read and pass on. This horror has to stop. theguardian.com/commentisfre…

There will, without doubt, be future deaths from #ME unless @NHSEngland are very, very careful about the training module they are preparing to put out on ME. The responsibility is on them to put out the very highest quality of information.

We use the 2002 estimate?
HOW is this even possible?
@ONS @NHSEngland What other LTC’s have no current prevalence figure?
WHY does the #MEcfs community even have to ask Govt/NHS to calculate the numbers of #pwME in 2024?
#DontForgetME
"The honest answer is that we just don’t know how many people have ME/CFS in the UK. We can only make a very rough estimate based on limited epidemiological research, along with the opinion of clinicians, researchers and people who have the condition"

Well, @BBCNewsnight here's a story for you, and it needs to be told

Millie McAinsh - Drs ignore NICE guidelines, psychologise her ME-deny PEJ, threaten to section/detain her. This isn’t the first time NHS has failed severe ME patients. Action needed #BringMillieHome #DontLetMEDie @gmcuk @RCPhysicians @rcpsych @VictoriaAtkins

Well well @RCPhysicians here we are again. Another day, another growing scandal involving medical professions likely YOUR members. We're old enough to remember when in 2021 your people secretly lobbied NICE over ME guidelines #BringMillieHome #DontLetMEDie thecanary.co/uk/analysis/202…

Why do we keep having to do this? When will the #NHS treat #MyalgicEncephalomyelitis patients with respect and implement a protocol for very severe patients? bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-de…

Millie 2024 wrongly sectioned

Sophia Mirza was wrongfully sectioned in 2003 because doctors didn't understand #MECFS. This caused a deterioration which ultimately led to her death. 20yrs later and it happened to Millie. It has been lifted but Millie continues to be mistreated.

No more avoidable deaths from #SevereME. It is a life threatening physical illness, not a mental health situation. It can happen to anyone and hospitals must learn how to treat it now, right now.

My simple message is the world needs to wake up to Myalgic Encephalomyelitis.
I was hospitalised in 2006 it was horrendous. Lot of the treatment questionable. I live with the trauma now.
How is the treatment still like this 18yrs later?

People with ME should not live in fear of going to hospital due to the lack of education of doctors. It's up to @gmcuk @rcphysicians @psych to get to grips with how they can help patients & avoid causing further harm to extremely ill patients #SevereME

This is what Millie’s family is asking for, just this. Too many people with #SevereME have already died. Please let this be a turning point and let #ME be treated as the biophysical illness that it is for all patients. #DontLetMEDie #BringMillieHome 🙏

Many other people with #ME are terrified to engage with #NHS healthcare, and fear the need to be admitted because they see how #severeME patients are treated in UK hospitals.
Learn how to treat ME from those who know.
