A simplified phylogenetic tree schematic to visually represent the recent findings on the emergence of modern humans. – It also shows ancient source components relevant for later groups (e.g. OOA-like, European or East Asian HGs, ANE, etc.), not modern populations...

Distribution of Slavic sites in Romania and Moldova during the Migration Period. These groups are the result of Prague-Korchak and Penk'ovka diffusing into the region and fusing into a homogeneous horizon, although ethnically these are identified mainly as Antes.

Yamnaya, Corded Ware and Bell Beaker haplogroup similarity. 20 / 135 (14.8%) of Corded Ware have a clade from Yamnaya 156 / 179 (87.2%) of Bell Beaker have a clade from Corded Ware Using a clade depth of 11 from the first 3 digits
Updated and Corrected version accounting for missing samples and with deeper clades (Clade depth of 11 from the first 3 digits) Corded Ware has 20 / 135 samples on the same Clade as Yamnaya, which is a 14.8% similarity.

Female skeleton (16–20 years) from Spain dated to the 8th–5th centuries BC shows a genetic profile of North Iberian with a high proportion of Steppe ancestry and mitochondrial haplogroup U5a1, typical of Western European Mesolithic hunter-gatherers.

David massively revised his preprint. Check out the new version! Some highlights are more evidence for why range expansion specifically works better than an admixture pulse and what genes may have been inherited from the expanding "mode 3" population biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…
New solo paper from David Reich might provide some clarity to the Muddle in the Middle. Maybe Humans and Neanderthals are both hybrids of an old expansion of the "MSA population" and local European / African humans:

1) Ancient DNA comes often with bad coverage. You can fill the gaps statistically using GLIMPSE fairly standard practice. The obvious worry however is does that quietly drag the ancient genome toward the moderns you borrowed from in Admixtools? So I tested it. 🧵

Gregor Mendel, the godfather of genetics, carried Y-DNA R1a and mtDNA H1c1. On smartPCA, he falls between West Slavs and Northern/Western Europeans, typical of eastern Germans and Austrians. Distal qpAdm: 46.7% Samara Yamnaya, 40.4% Barcin ANF, 12.9% Loschbour WHG (p=0.301).
Prominent scientist Gregor Mendels Y-DNA has been determined to be R1a and his mitochondrial (mtDNA) is H1C1. In terms of physical characteristics, he had blue eyes, brown hair, and fair skin, along with a tendency towards baldness.

Not surprising on the result of new Sintashta samples, but nevertheless always great with new samples. Ancient DNA analysis identified the Y-chromosome haplogroup R1a1a1b2a (Z94). Also evidence of a well-healed intravital trepanation was identified, which in terms of the technique (scraping), has the closest analogies among people of the Middle Volga Abashevo culture. nav.jvolsu.com/index.php/en/…

This paper argues that Scandinavian Mesolithic hunter-gatherers, particularly Early Mesolithic groups in Denmark, may have hunted with poisoned arrows, and that this could explain the prevalence and design of their tiny microlithic projectile points. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Napoleon was not only a military genius but a polymath who was elected to France’s premier intellectual institution. He could pick up almost anything: his literary criticism impressed Goethe, he could debate mathematical theory with Laplace, and his knowledge of music impressed Berlioz.

Another drop (PRJEB105378), another demonstration of what I spoke about earlier. The samples neatly fall along an Italic-Etruscan IA to Imperial Anatolian cline. I agree with Tabin that local Italic IA admixture increased after the Imperial period, into the Early Medieval era.
16 new genomes from Abruzzo show the pattern seen in other parts of Italy: Relatively high amounts of Near Eastern related ancestry in the Imperial period with a shift towards Northern Europe in the Early Medieval period thats maintained through today cell.com/iscience/fulltext/S…

The distal model (p=0.519) shows Iran_N enrichment typical of South Italian-affine profiles, while WHG hints at increased local Italic IA ancestry. The proximal fit (p=0.947) gives 64% Imperial Roman + 36% Republican Italic IA, though low coverage and Roman n=1 inflate SEs.

Elite male from the Chernyakhov culture associated with military aristocracy turned out to be genetically close to the Scythians and Sarmatians. His rich burial was excavated in the Kursk region. Y-DNA is determined R1a1a1b1 (R1a-Z283) and mitochondrial haplogroup U5a1. nplus1.ru/news/2026/10/09/ge…

The Komani-Kruje Culture in its entirety mapped out. Spanning from Late antiquity to the Early medieval it represents the resurgence of Albanians from Byzantine administration evident from its functionality independent from the Imperium and a need for reinforcement against the incursions of Avar / Slavic migrations seen by highly elevated settlements and forts. Although most archeological research has gotten to a steady halt in the past few years it clearly paints a picture that the first Albanian principality 'Arbanon' did not form from nothing but rather an already established settlement landscape with its own sub-economies with interconnected trade routes.

We’re releasing a broad range of new mathematical results produced by an internal frontier model. We’ve been consulting with the independent Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence at the Institute for Advanced Study, and we have drawn on their advice and public recommendations to inform how we release these results. github.com/openai/math

This study aimed to genetically identify remains presumed to belong to a Rurikid prince interred in a 12th-century stone sarcophagus in the Martirievskaya Porch of St. Sophia Cathedral. Archaeological and historical evidence indicates that the individual belonged to the social elite. Y-DNA is I2a. link.springer.com/article/10…

The shift is pretty blatant, by the Roman era Magna Graecian profiles are pulled hard toward a Cypriot/West Anatolian pole. Marathon, Tenea (n=4) and Isola Sacra (n=4) all show it, with varying amounts of Republic IA ancestry forming the core of Imperial Roman profiles.
Proof for your claim?

Last thing I’ll add to this thread since I’m moving on after this, but much of what I’m pointing out here is already pretty well documented. I’ll just leave this excellent tidbit from Lazaridis right here: xitter.cf/iosif_lazaridis/status…
Imperial Romans from Italy are statistically indistinguishable from Roman-Byzantine Anatolians or, secondarily, 1st millennium BC Anatolians. Their main source was Anatolia-like, and definitely not Aegean-like; they also had negligible Italian IA ancestry.
