The moment you step out of your vehicle, you become a pedestrian. 🚶➡️
For October's National Pedestrian Safety Month, we're reminding everyone that safety is a 2-way street:
👁️ Drivers: Scan crosswalks and stay focused — put the phone away.
👟 Pedestrians: Stay visible, use crosswalks and look both ways before stepping off the curb.
Rain is in the forecast for many parts of the country this week. ⛈️
When you're behind the wheel, slow down and adjust your speed for the conditions. Increase your following distance and give yourself more time to stop. ⤵️

The deer are back, and they still be deering! 👀
Deer are especially active from October through December, particularly around dawn and dusk. Slow down, stay alert, and keep your eyes on the road.
Remember: If you see one deer, there may be more behind it.

Roundabouts aren't large enough for trucks? This center ring is called the truck apron. It allows the rear wheels of larger vehicles to track up on it and clear the roundabout without encouraging passenger vehicles to pass or speed through the roundabout.

Roundabouts are designed to enhance safety and improve traffic flow by reducing conflict points found at traditional intersections. And yes, large vehicles and farm equipment can navigate them safely.

Happy National Roundabouts Week! Love them. Hate them. They work.
Single-lane roundabouts in Ohio reduced injury crashes by 69%, while multi-lane roundabouts reduced them by 25%, according to an Ohio Department of Transportation crash data analysis of 76 converted intersections. – at Chillicothe, OH

Nervous about driving through roundabouts? It’s simpler than you might think.
Here are the rules of the roundabout:
✴️ Slow down
✴️ Look around
✴️ Be ready to yield

Q: Why can't you just build the companion bridge first and then work on all the roadway connections?
A: It's a fair question, and the short answer is: waiting would cost years. The Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project is not simply a new bridge over the Ohio River. It is eight miles of improved roadways along one of the nation's most critical interstate corridors, encompassing highway rebuilding, new approaches to the existing Brent Spence Bridge, two miles of approaches to the new companion bridge, bike and pedestrian facilities, stormwater upgrades and more.
If the companion bridge were built first and everything else followed in sequence, the finished structure would sit unconnected to the surrounding road network for years, unable to carry a single car or truck.
Ohio and Kentucky worked closely with the project's design-build team to develop an aggressive phased construction schedule that advances all of these elements simultaneously. Building concurrently compresses the timeline and gets the completed system into service sooner. None of this happened quickly.
The project's design and management teams have dedicated nearly 2 million hours to planning the construction sequence, a figure that reflects just how complex it is to rebuild a major interstate corridor while keeping traffic moving, creating a safe work area and maintaining access to downtown Cincinnati and Covington. What looks like multiple projects happening at once is, in fact, one well-planned sequence working as intended.
