🧵 Hungry for growth again. There is a new trend among the major mining companies. For the first time since the end of the great bull market in commodities more than 12 years ago, the giants of the mining industry are focusing more on growth. In recent years, BHP, Rio Tinto and the like have been relatively reluctant to embark on major new investment programs, maintaining strong capital discipline and prioritizing dividend payouts over growth investments. That will change in 2024. The commodity giants want to benefit more from the expected boom in demand for many metals that will play a key role in the energy transition (see Copper). Given the risks of recession and the many uncertainties in the world's largest consuming nation (China), will the new growth spurt succeed? 2024 is going to be very interesting in this area as well. Let's take a look at some of the #mining giants' CAPEX plans for the coming year(s). ⚒️
