Interesting thread - and it’s not just Elsevier.
More fun publisher surveillance: Elsevier embeds a hash in the PDF metadata that is *unique for each time a PDF is downloaded*, this is a diff between metadata from two of the same paper. Combined with access timestamps, they can uniquely identify the source of any shared PDFs.
This is a photo from today’s protest in Melb, and an info wars flag! Any decent person should see that flag and go home. It’s the company you keep that defines you...

Woman next to me on plane with delightful baby on her lap. Passenger in front insists on reclining her seat (on 90 minute flight 🙄). The mum very politely, sweetly asks passenger in front to put seat forward, as it’s squashing baby. Passenger refuses. What’s wrong with people?

As Eddie Obeid heads to jail today, I am reminded of the last time we spoke. “Kate, you are a lowlife, the ultimate of lowlifes, you are a gutter journalist. You write one thing out of place, I tell you what I will go for you, for the jugular.” Farewell Eddie, it’s been a blast.

Doesn’t Gladys look absolutely thrilled to be papped maskless on a coffee run with her new beau Arthur Moses. Murdoch’s Sydney tabloid naturally splashed today’s paper with the no mask yarn.

Berejiklian now admits she needed to go harder, but this is far too late. This is what happens when leaders bend the knee to Murdoch campaigns not to take decisive action. The result: freedoms suspended, jobs & businesses undermined. theguardian.com/australia-ne…

If you've ever wondered what reporting would look like without the Murdoch cancer, just look at how the world sees our latest national outbreak, embarrassing vaccine rollout (5% fully vaccinated) and the fact we put returned travellers through big city hotels. Morrison has failed

This is what it looks like for an energy-efficient home to run 24/7 on solar plus batteries. Blue is consumption which is low. During day, it is from PV; night from batteries. Extra 63 kWh sold to grid

Ha! Are you sure it won’t be an announcement of a future announcement announcing that he’ll announce his resignation. Then, like on most things, he won’t follow through! #ScottyTheAnnouncer #ScottyDoesNothing #ScottyFromPhotoOps #ScottyFromCarpeting #ScottyTheGaslighter #auspol

There are many a**eholes who have no idea that their prosperity over many years has been dependent on immigration. Nor do they accept that a lot of refugees have arrived as a consequence of our military interference in other countries. Racism and bigotry are alive and well in Aus
