An LAPD helicopter was flying too low and was extremely noisy while LAPD officers were handling a call about a "man with a knife."
One officer yelled "he doesn't have the knife!" but the helicopter was too low and too loud. All he could hear was "knife" and then opened fire.
ALT A man with a knife was shot by police. Then an LAPD helicopter made things worse
ALT Uncertain if Soto had dropped the knife, Martinez asked Mejia whether he was still armed. “No, no, no, he doesn’t have the knife!” Mejia shouted back. “He doesn’t have the knife!” Mejia then shouted at Voci and his partner to tell them the same thing. No knife. But the helicopter was too low and too loud. Voci said he could hear a jumble of voices yelling over the din of Air 10, but couldn’t tell who was speaking or what was being said. The only word he could make out, shouted over and over, was “knife, knife,” he said.

the new @Goonband record is out today. I literally can’t believe it, I don’t know how to react. This album is so incredibly special to us, recorded during Covid, no shows, a world of uncertainty, new lineup including myself, continuing to build + understand the history of Goon

As a society, we spend damn near all of our money on policing and we have so little to show for it. It’s by far our worst public investment, a trillions of dollars-something fraud.
Cops stood outside the school while the killer rampaged inside.
Onlookers yelled at them to go in. They didn’t. One parent urged bystanders:
“Let’s just rush in because the cops aren’t doing anything like they are supposed to.” @AP story:

To be American is to become shamefully numbed to a steady diet of mass death, political cowardice, & corporate greed -- the erosion of fundamental decency, honesty, and the desire for equality. Every day for the rest of our lives is this: numbing tragedy and contemptible inertia.

✭ Take the rest of the afternoon off, everybody, and go get tacos. But first, check out the new single from L.A. quartet New Media (IG: newmediaband), "Slackers." bit.ly/3KyhttS
We make a lot of jokes on here, but we’re putting out a new song next week. Any blogs, sites, writers interested in hearing it? It’s a melting pot of Pixies, Pavement, and early Dandy Warhols, w/ a healthy dash of Interpol.

this might have been us if we didn't use up the last 20 years yelling at 65-year-old baseball writers for undervaluing on-base percentage. i'm guilty of this too. we blew it, we all blew it

Eric Alper is, and I’m being completely sincere, more influential than any music journalist or critic to emerge in the last 10 years
