Training data is the fastest growing market in the world AND the most opaque Combine the frenzy of the Gold Rush, with the chaos of the Wild West, and mix in the paranoia of an arms race and you'll start to understand why I run a data lab @Invent_Data and every Friday I'll share at least two stories of what in the hell is happening in the training data trenches Issue #001 covering the rise of business data brokers and the immature data capital stack 👇 trainingdatanews.com/p/001

Nice chapter-by-chapter breakdown of my chat with @8teAPi and @labenz on their show. If any of this resonates with you, reach out! We are hiring!
We meet Daniel McKinnon (@danielmckinn0n), CEO of Gamow Labs, who is building AI systems to reanalyze unresolved rare-disease genomes—and using a rescued laboratory to generate new biological evidence. We spend much of the conversation at the VUS boundary: a biology study can add ACMG points to a patient's case while also teaching the machines what that region of the genome does. We trace the personal origin of the work through his son Owen: McKinnon's own reanalysis found what a prenatal sequencing lab had missed. We then follow Owen's missed diagnosis to the workflow level: a disease-causing deletion fell outside a clinical lab's search cutoff, while an AI agent kept looking. The conversation is worth our time because it gets concrete about the AI layer: a harness, tools, and trace analysis are used to catch failures as basic as changing a gene's name. We also visit the lab to examine the proposed hill climb from $50,000 per functional study toward a 50-cent target, with a robot arm moving plates through high-throughput experiments. That target is not an achieved cost; it is the engineering question on the table. We learned a ton. Enjoy! TIMESTAMPS 0:00 Can a rescued lab teach AI? 3:09 Why AI genetics needs biological experiments 6:10 A failed drug program unlocked Gamow's lab 7:51 Owen's missed diagnosis became a life's mission 10:21 AI agents can search beyond human cutoffs 13:14 Sequencing got cheap; interpretation stayed the bottleneck 15:20 Why Gamow chose diagnostics over screening 18:41 Reanalysis in a week for ten dollars a genome 20:28 What Gamow builds on top of frontier models 23:10 Stronger models can break existing tools 25:45 Can robots make genetic experiments affordable? 27:08 Can biological experiments teach genetic AI?

If you're more of a podcast person and interested in learning more about what we're up to at @GamowLabs, my @MTSlive episode just dropped on their feed. @sophiadew is a great host and I think really helped me tell my story in a way I am proud of. open.spotify.com/episode/3sN…

Today we're officially launching @typedotcom, the shared space for your team's best AI work. Teams need a central place to build apps, skills and automations together. Not swarms of agents. Our ambition with Type is to be the last piece of software your team will ever need. To build this, we've raised $4m from @LererHippeau, @haystackvc, @MatchstickVC, and angels from Slack, Github, and Ramp. So what does Type do? → share work from Claude chats into a collaborative space → switch harness or model any time → manage integrations with granular permissions → a central place to deploy apps and automations together → build a self-learning company brain → use your existing Claude or ChatGPT subscription Companies like @rayconglobal, @Intelligems and @trueclassictees are already running tens of thousands of successful agent jobs that forecast revenue, manage inventory, answer support tickets, and a lot more. We're blown away every day at the custom tools and automations our customers are building. What's something you haven't yet been able to solve or automate in your business? Tell us in the comments and we'll respond by building it for you in Type!

Rare-disease diagnostics tend to be slow and expensive. They don't need to be. Within an hour of seeing @cgeorgiaw's @huggingface challenge to diagnose a real child living with Mosaic Variegated Aneuploidy (MVA), @Gamowlabs submitted a correct molecular diagnosis identified by George, our clinical genomics agent. Every child should have access to SOTA clinical genomics. This is just one demonstration of how this is now possible with AI. Now onto phase 2 to try to find a treatment!

This is exactly right. It's our whole thesis. The mistake is thinking the AI transition is about putting a better interface on top of the system of record. It’s much more fundamental than that. For my whole career, software was architected around humans operating workflows. UI = business logic = database. But now with AI... software will be architected around agents operating workflows. intent = context + policy reasoning = tools + deterministic state changes The AI winners won’t just have the most data.... they'll be the best at turning that data into reliable action. That is what an AI harness actually is. I promise you, a chatbot sitting on top of CRUD software is not an AI strategy that will take you past this short AI transition period. You eventually have to rebuild the application around the assumption that software itself is now one of the users. And I think that's the next era of software. So excited about what we are building at @DaltonMillsAI :)
Prediction: systems of record will need to become AI harnesses or face replacement by agents

What kind of mentor are you? A) Give them a rod. B) A + point them to water. C) A + point them to a honey hole. D) A + teach them how to fish. I’m A because B-D fail as often, just slower. My worst investments ever have been C. My biggest mistakes have been D.

A shout out from @elonmusk was not on my bingo card today either... If anyone on the @spacexai team wants to collaborate with me and the @Gamowlabs team on improving AI performance on diagnosing infants with rare disease, please reach out! We could do a lot of good together. I know Elon ♥️👶!

@elonmusk - I know you lost your firstborn, Nevada, at 10 weeks. I'm so sorry. @danielmckinn0n started @Gamowlabs after losing our first born son at 8 weeks old. @grok and @Gamowlabs together can help save more and babies 💙 Let's do it!

From Mecha Hitler to SOTA rare-disease diagnosis in children? @spacexai's @grok 4.6 has taken the 👑 on RareBench, edging out @AnthropicAI Claude Opus 5 for about 1/3 the cost. This was not on my 2026 bingo card! @deepseek_ai's new v4-pro-0813 model underperformed my expectations, v4-flash, and seemingly the entire internet's. We accessed using DeepSeek's 1P API on the day of release and I almost wonder if they didn't switch over their model endpoint correctly. We will re-benchmark and report back. @Zai_org has attracted a following with GLM5.2, but they, too, underperformed. This doesn't surprise me because when I compared GLM and @Kimi_Moonshot K3 for coding use-cases, I found Kimi substantially stronger, but the internet seems to love this model.

I think about this tweet everyday
As you become an adult, you realize that things around you weren't just always there; people made them happen. But only recently have I started to internalize how much tenacity *everything* requires. That hotel, that park, that railway. The world is a museum of passion projects.

I’m at the bottom of a multi-layer SPV and am looking forward to the SpaceX IPO in much the same way a golden retriever looks forward to a car ride: - thrilled to be involved - no clue how cars work - unsure if going to the park or getting neutered
