The biggest mistake coaches make is by trying to justify their existence. The majority of training session should be boring, “easy” and not include structure.

One of the most important performance concepts: Our brain is predictive. Poor performance is often the result of getting stuck in a bad predictive rut. Stress, pressure --> Fear, catastrophizing --> Avoid & protect coping/actions. To get out you have to...

MASTERS LEADERS SURVIVE MECHANICAL SCARE Aged 40-49, Masters Men is the largest category at the @CapeEpic. Winning it is a big deal, which is why the drama that unfolded for the Masters Category leaders on Stage 4 at Oak Valley is a tale worth telling. treadmtb.co.za/cape-epic-mas…

(1/2) ⏰ 10 Day to go the the start of the @CapeEpic - Here is how you should taper. Keep it simple. ⬇️ training volume. Aim to do the same hours in the last 10 day than you did in a normal training week

(2/2) ➡️ maintain intensity. Yes you can still do 2 hard session before the start. But you don’t need to go at 100%. 80-90% is fine 🛌 🧘‍♀️ 🍚 Focus on eliminating stress, good recovery and sleep and high carbohydrate availability

This tweet is exactly what is wrong with Genetic testing. Sorry Alan, but knowing one genotype is completely meaningless. Unfortunately we have only scraped the surface of starting to understand the complexities in action here
Doing a deep dive into the #genetics of training response. Any rs6552828 G/Gers in the house? If so, consider me jealous!

A quick thread on athlete monitoring in cycling: High quality & meaningful monitoring requires a combination of internal and external load metrics. Why a combination?…

A very good thread! My tip is to pick a few valid methods for internal&external load and apply those consistently. Consistency&simplicity trumps the newest&fanciest occasionally used metrics. For consistency it is crucial that athletes&coaches buy in to the metrics used.

If you feel that Constantia Nek road coming up from HB side is a life threatening risk for cyclists then RT. Needs a road verge installed 25 yrs ago already. What is going on there that this hasn’t been a realisation @CityofCT @alanwinde ?

A higher CTL is not a guarantee of an improved performance. The dose-response relationship between training load (e.g. CTL) and performance is not linear. Pay attention to how your training volume and intensity is distributed and don’t simply, ‘chase the blue line’

Do you know anyone at Harries that can give an update on the ladies race happening now?
Just phoned Harries Pancakes in Graskop to check if they have any results for TT Nationals @Cycling_SA 😅
