I visited the warehouse that keeps your local healthcare facility stocked and met the people who run it. They supply over 700 healthcare facilities, including 54 hospitals, with the gloves, dressings and dental supplies patients need every day.
The Western Cape Health Warehouse at Tygerberg Hospital holds R142.9 million of stock across 510 products. It began in January 2021 as our COVID response, when we took over 96 lines of protective equipment such as masks and gloves. People in our department saw that bulk delivery would work better, and it now supplies dental, stoma and clinical items too.
The warehouse employs 47 people, from drivers and pickers to procurement staff, including interns.
Our facilities handle more than 280 million patient contacts a year. These are the people who make sure the supplies are there. Thank you.

Riding in memory of Lilitha Lombo.ποΈπ€π²
Her family, her teammates and cyclists from across the community came together this morning in Somerset West. We rode, and we placed flowers at the ghost bike where she died.
Thank you to @KhaltshaCycles , @PedalPowerPPA and everyone who rode with us.
Stay wider of the rider. Please.
Women can lead in construction and fencing, and Sharon Isaacs is proof. Her company, Amabamba Fencing, celebrated 30 years last night.ππ€©
Sharon and Financial Director, Cicelene Fransman, are business leaders in traditionally male-dominated industries. I was with them last night, alongside leaders from the construction industry.
To every girl at school who is wondering if construction, engineering or running your own business is for you: it is. Sharon started where you are, and look at what she has built.
Congratulations to Sharon, the Amabamba team and the award winners. It can be done!
Every child deserves a safe environment in which to thrive. But if they face danger, we must step in. Our Safety Parent Programme gives vulnerable children a safe, nurturing family environment.
Minister Wendy Kaizer-Philander and I were on @CapeTalk this morning to talk about about this incredible programme. I urge more of our residents to join this "Circle of Care" by becoming safety parents.
To every safety parent already opening their home and heart to these children: thank you.ππ
If you can offer a child a safe, temporary home, call 0800 220 250 (toll-free) or visit your nearest DSD office.
If you suspect a child is being hurt, report it to DSD or the relevant authorities.

π§ Progress on the Seven Passes road (MR355) near George: the R73.6 million flood repair project is making progress. Five failed culverts and four failed causeways are being replaced across the MR355 and four district roads. Scroll to see the work underway.
Piling and concrete decks, reinforced earth and retaining walls are repairing slipped sections of road, and larger concrete pipes are replacing the old drainage.
The project is also creating work for local people. So far, 10,458 person-days of local labour have been used and 92 work opportunities created.
Thank you to Provincial Minister @Min_TSimmers and the Department of Infrastructure team for the progress so far. We expect to complete the work in March 2027, weather permitting.

Happy birthday, Mama Leah Tutu.π
Her work for justice, peace and reconciliation did not end with the Arch. It carries on through The Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation.
Thank you, Mama Leah, for your service to South Africa.πΏπ¦ I wish you good health and a day with the people you love.
Around 35,000 Western Cape jobs are linked to our exports to the United States alone. This is how important it is for us to keep building on our export markets, even when we encounter challenges.
Today I met exporters, export councils and @Wesgro at the Export Industry Dialogue.
Exporters are already finding new customers. Citrus volumes to Africa are up 40% and 21% to Asia.
When our exporters sell more, they crwate more jobs. Our job is to help them reach more buyers, and to push for a port that performs.

Congratulations to all the winners at the @veritasawards !ππΏπ¦ The wine industry supports 245,128 jobs in the Western Cape - thatβs more than 90% of all wine jobs in South Africa.
I joined winemakers, viticulturists and cellar teams at this year's awards on Saturday, which drew 1,293 entries. The industry contributed R56.5 billion to the national economy in 2025, and it is one of our province's key export sectors.
When this industry grows, our economy grows, and more residents in the Winelands and beyond have a job.
Lekker one, @THESTORMERS !π€©ππ 39-22 over the Sharks at DHL Stadium. Well done to the players and coaches. Cape Town is proud of you!
It was also good to see the @ILoveBoobies_za presence at the match today. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so please get checked early and tell the women in your life to do the same. Early detection saves lives.
Today I traded in my cycling gear for my running shoes to help launch our @WestCapeHealth WOWRewards programme - a first of its kind for SA's public healthcare system.
Whether you choose running, cycling, gyming, or any activity that gets you up and about, this initiative encourages us all to take a step, or steps, towards living healthier lives.

Why did we cycle from the Weskus to the Cape Winelands, and through the Breede Valley to Cape Town? π²
To deliver 300 bicycles to 42 schools and neighbourhood watch groups across seven municipalities.
Over five days, the #WCGCycleTour2026 took us across large parts of the province. We rode in the rain, cycled through the Weskus wheat fields, climbed Bainskloof Pass, descended Helshoogte, and finished today at Isiphiwo Primary School in Khayelitsha and Mondale High School in Mitchells Plain.
We are investing in our young people to enable access to opportunities.
Thank you to our partners, and to the traffic officers who supported us the whole way, and to every driver who hooted us on.
Five days. Seven Municipalities. Ten stops. 42 schools. For you.

Day 5 of the #WCGCycleTour began with a moment of silence for Lilitha Lombo, a member of @KhaltshaCycles Development Club. She was killed in a hit-and-run while training in Somerset West on 29 September.
This morning, cyclists, traffic officers and everyone on the tour joined hands in her memory.
A life lost on the road is one too many! We stand with Lilitha's family and the Khaltsha Cycles community.
Sindile Mavundla, one of the club's founders , said it plainly: we need to be kind and considerate to one another when we share the road.
Roads are for everyone. Please look out for the people around you on the road today and everyday.
BREAKING NEWS: Cape Town becomes South Africa's first metro to run its own energy plant.β‘πΏπ¦
Today I travelled to Atlantis to switch on the Helderhoop Energy Plant. Only Hessequa Municipality has done this before.
For Cape Town's residents, businesses, and economy this means a more sustainable and affordable energy future.
It also moves the Western Cape closer to our goal of 5,700 MW of sustainable, more cost-effective energy.
Thank you to all involved!

Day two of the #WCGCycleTour is underway! Rain jackets on in Berg River β At Steynville Primary, learners from four schools wheeled out new bicycles, and Neighbourhood Watch members received bikes, lights and tools to patrol their streets. Stop three of 10: done β

First stop done for #WCGCycleTour2026 and Middelpos Primary, you brought the energy!π€©π²
Learners from four schools in Saldanha Bay received new bicycles this morning to make their trip to school faster and safer. They're the first 4 of 42 schools receiving bicycles across 10 stops this week.
Follow our socials for more updates on our journey this week.
#GettingItDone #ForYou
We also handed over bicycles, lights and patrol tools to the local Neighbourhood Watch, so members can cover more ground and help keep the community safer #ForYou. π
#WCGCycleTour Day 1, VIBES! π΄
We're on our way to our first school. Before we set off, I asked the riders what they're looking forward to. The vibes, the road ahead, and most of all, the smiles on the kids' faces when they receive their bicycles.
For a child who walks to school, that means getting to class faster and safer. This is riding with a purpose, with road safety and mobility at the heart of every stop.
Follow along as we ride.
