COVID, COVID, COVID. Congratulations to Dr Peter Wing from @UniofOxford for his illuminating talk! Starving SARS-CoV-2 of oxygen halted its replication in lung epithelial cells, and Peter used soft X-ray tomography to understand how hypoxic mitochondria stave off the virus.

I have a feeling that RNA FISH-based transcriptomics will have a side benefit beyond spatial information: much higher accuracy, mostly due to direct detection/lack of PCR-based amplification. I suspect a lot of hand-wringing about batch correction will be a thing of the past.

We have a new paper out! In collaboration with @castello_lab and the McKeating lab and @jefflee1103 and @dalia_science made some fascinating discoveries about how the different variants of the virus that causes Covid19 behaves in cells. Short explainer video in plain English here

"I would do anything for love, but I won't read that"
Dammit, we've been scooped by a new Cell paper that completely figured out COVID-19 via a *blood atlas*. There's nothing left to work on; it's clear as day. (If it's confusing for you, the graphical abstract-- boxed in red below-- should completely clear it up.)
