Ever wondered how humans would perceive the world with eyes 1000x faster, sensitive to infrared, or capable of "seeing" coffee cup vibrations from our voice?
For humans, it's a mystery. But for 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀, my group at WIS aims to answer these ques., and you can take part!
Don't miss our talk 𝐓𝐎𝐃𝐀𝐘 @ Oral Session 1D, 10:30 am, MHB 3A-4A.
(Note the date change Sunday --> Friday).
𝐓𝐋;𝐃𝐑: We extend speckle-based sound recovery from very “easy” objects (e.g., a chip bag) to a broader and more challenging class of everyday objects.

Can you hear the contents of a Coke bottle?
We can!
Our novel vibration-sensing camera + Vibration-Transformer detect container type & its hidden liquid level — all remotely, no contact.
Catch us Tue PM poster #878 @ #ICCV2025!

Fun fact: the 'PR' in @CVPR is Pattern Recognition!
But what if your environment, or parts of it, don't have good patterns?
No problem: Just paint them remotely with light! (a laser), then track them with an infrared camera.

Our paper is:
Projecting Trackable Thermal Patterns for Dynamic Computer Vision
Our system is used for dynamic vision tasks such as SfM, object tracking, and optical flow on completely textureless objects.

Changes in the speckles of laser light bounced directly off of sound-producing objects can be used to reconstruct sound. OPN talked with @MarkSheinin, who, with colleagues, has developed a setup for doing just that—without the expensive high-speed cameras. ow.ly/9QHH50KFnka
If you missed our talk about "Dual-Shutter Optical Vibration Sensing" at the Tuesday morning award session, you can catch a short overview today at the Hall B-C morning Oral session, and come to chat at our poster (32a). Look for the poster making sounds!

What if a camera could *see* the tiny (microscopic) surface vibrations of musical instruments as a musician plays them?
Or a chips bag's vibrations caused by a person speaking in the room?
Our new @CVPR (Oral) paper has the answers!

We experimentally show apps like:
* Remote sensing of minute surface vibrations in 2D (e.g., speaker membrane)
* Recording indirect vibration sources (e.g. human speech from a chips bag)
* Recording multiple instruments at once.
* Object vibrational modes analysis.
