Join us on April 23rd for a screening of the documentary "City of Shells", followed by a Q&A about Hong Kong's oyster reef ecosystem and @TNC_HK 's work with our lab to monitor and restore these reefs.

Probiotics for Oyster babies: @bovernsuchart and the team are testing the survival and growth of baby Magallana angulata oysters after adding probiotic bacteria. We hope to see if probiotics can enhance oyster tolerance to extreme conditions driven by climate change.

Urban tropical marine #biodiversity has been understudied. Scientists @SWIMSHKU, using metabarcoding & sampling structures known as ARMS, showed that biodiversity of invertebrates in Hong Kong seas is remarkably high, even at highly impacted sites.

@lausally kicked off the @scarchile2024 conference with a plenary focused on using genomics to inform ice sheet history. Amazing talk! #scar2024 @SCAR_Tweets @saef_arc @MarineOmics @jcu 🧬🇦🇶🐙🧬
Our postdoc, Zhengquan, has been raising sea urchin larvae to study the trans-generational effects of thermal stress of parents on offspring. Thanks to Leonardo Frosi for the help! @SWIMSHKU @HKUniversity @HKUSBS #marinescience #heatwave #climatechange
Very busy summer field season. We have been assessing nitrogen cycling in sub-tidal oyster habitats off of South Lantau. #oyster #marinescience @HKUniversity @HKUSBS @SWIMSHKU

Such a great few days in Hong Kong being hosted by @BaydenRussell @ljfalkenberg and #HaiweiLuo @CUHKGlobal for our ENSURE incubator looking at next-generation probiotics for oyster. Also got to see @SWIMSHKU and the HKU oyster hatchery thanks to #DrRajan. So productive

Our new analysis of some of the biggest methodology issues with #marine #heatwave experiments, and some suggested improvements!
@hku_science @SWIMSHKU @HKUSBS
Marine heatwave experiments are important to understand mechanisms that drive organismal response.
But they have to be set up in an ecologically relevant way.
Some guidelines to achieve this. @AarhusUni_int

Success ✅ in baseline marine #biodiversity surveys on the sea wall of the new #HongKong International Airport 3rd runway to inform large scale #OysterReef #restoration. We found some oysters; once we deploy shell/rock for reef base in 2024 this could be ideal for oyster growth!
