This is where #OysterReef #restoration begins! I'm excited to be setting our first batches of large and deploying them in the ocean! The culmination of 8 years of collaboration with @TNC_HK. Excited to be making some real impact! @hku_science @HKUSBS @SWIMSHKU
Magallana angulata larvae before and after they are set on shells to be out planted at the @hkairport to restore/enhance oyster populations. In collaboration with @TNC_HK #oysterrestoration @HKUniversity @SWIMSHKU

Very glad this is out finally. Cenozoic Coral Triangle biodiversity has been the core research interest since my moving to Hong Kong. It’s finally done! go.nature.com/45Db9xj
Prof Moriaki Yasuhara #HKU School of Biological Sciences, Swire Institute of Marine Science, & collaborators, reconstruct evolutionary history of the #Coral Triangle to explain why it has the highest marine #biodiversity on Earth. hku.hk/press/press-releases/…

Such a great few days in Hong Kong being hosted by @BaydenRussell @ljfalkenberg and #HaiweiLuo @CUHKGlobal for our ENSURE incubator looking at next-generation probiotics for oyster. Also got to see @SWIMSHKU and the HKU oyster hatchery thanks to #DrRajan. So productive
Our new analysis of some of the biggest methodology issues with #marine #heatwave experiments, and some suggested improvements!
@hku_science @SWIMSHKU @HKUSBS
Marine heatwave experiments are important to understand mechanisms that drive organismal response.
But they have to be set up in an ecologically relevant way.
Some guidelines to achieve this. @AarhusUni_int

Amazing to be part of such a large scaling up of #OysterReef #restoration in #HongKong! Truly fantastic #NatureBasedSolution #NbS!

Success ✅ in baseline marine #biodiversity surveys on the sea wall of the new #HongKong International Airport 3rd runway to inform large scale #OysterReef #restoration. We found some oysters; once we deploy shell/rock for reef base in 2024 this could be ideal for oyster growth!

New preprint uncovering widespread historical oyster reef (>750 km) in South China, how this ecosystem was transformed and lost alongside societal shifts over 7600 years! 🦪🧵

The history between society and oysters in the Pearl River Delta intertwined with each other throughout all 13 ancient dynasties 1,000's years, colonialism & the modern era. Oyster shells were burnt for lime in South China, leading to the absence of modern physical evidence.
