Even the way he dived is embarrassing. This was similar to Gvardiol’s chance on the other end the keeper stood his ground. Ours either dives too early or too late.
The goal could’ve been avoided if our keeper was trusted enough to receive a pass. It’s very likely that Enzo didn’t pass back to Donnarumma because of Maresca’s instructions to limit Donnarumma’s involvement in the build up. 🤷‍♂️

Benching ur creative maverick who’s proved themselves multiple times for a chubby unathletic midfielder all in the name of “midfield stability”… maybe it’s the Manchester weather

For 125 if this is ok for you then you're in the wrong club.
Enzo gets hate anyways either he does well or he's flat. He's the new scapegoat.

The file is big on this guy. You can even go back to Quarter finals vs Real Madrid in both legs. This is a guy that cost €90m and backs off every 1v1 situation coz he’s scared to get cooked. Either play him as striker or don’t play him at all coz he’s not a good defender👍🏽
This is the Josko Gvardiol I’ve been seeing since 23, never engages on any challenge and let crosses in. 23/24 & 24/25 we conceded more goes from crosses coming from the left hand side. This guy is a problem at the back but he’s good looking and has a nice beard👍🏽

A better sub would have been taking Enzo off. Not seen him do anything. Cherki was playing bad but he is the kind of guy who can get you something out of nothing.

Yes, Cherki can always do something and needs to stay on always. Players like Cherki, Doku, Haaland always do something. Enzo Fernandez generates 0 threat, 0 yet he gets to play 90 minutes.

Cherki gets taken off for this:
Manchester City problems vs Aston Villa Maresca Can you see this ?

I’d rather have a 32yo Bernardo
You can kill the man but not the idea

Enzo Fernandez is a £243M investment over the period of 5 contractual years. This response from Maresca isn’t to the fans, he’s telling his owners that the signing is working perfectly fine and he’s doing exactly what he wants. Benching a £48.6m a year investment would be a 🚩
Enzo Maresca on #ManCity's midfield set-up with Enzo Fernandez and Elliot Anderson vs Aston Villa: "Yeah [I was happy], I think we worked quite good. Again, they were the ones in charge to control the game and to build-up with Ruben [Dias] and Marc Guehi first-half and [Abdukodir] Khusa second-half. And I think they did well!"

Cherki didn’t have any problems under Pep. Pep understood for Cherki to be effective he needs to be in the final third. Rodri and Bernardo were getting the ball to him without him having to drop into his own half to get the ball. Build the midfield around Cherki and we cook.
Maresca took out Cherki at halftime and subbed in Foden. Like Foden would do better with Enzo Fernandez when Cherki could not. Instead of subbing off Enzo who is the problem, he is looking for solutions in other positions.

There was nothing wrong with how Cherki played, Anderson and Enzo were not much better. Why is it only Cherki that you people see bad performances? What happened to Anderson and Enzo? Ooo they cost 116m and 125m respectively.

Maresca has to start entertaining dropping Enzo Fernandez, stop mentioning Cherki, he dropped Cherki at halftime and we still lost. He should drop Enzo and see.
Maresca has to start entertaining the idea of dropping one (or both) of Enzo or Cherki for games against physically intense opposition midfields. PSG and Villa two games lost because of poor selection at the start - when everybody can see Bouaddi is needed in those games.

If we are completely honest Enzo F positioning deficiency is just as bad as Anderson’s. A total of £241m of midfield who can’t positioning themselves on the pitch. But Anderson gets a pass coz he’s English and ginger💀

Maresca isn’t benching Enzo coz he needs to justify to the board why the invested £125m and why he’s the 2nd highest paid at the club (£350k a week base, ~£105k bonus). Maresca was “begging” for the guy, that’s why he’s one of the first name in his IX. The signing has to work.

Even when he plays well, he's almost always the first sub
Cherki has a very small room for error cause what do you mean he’s a halftime sub whilst Enzo completes a 90?

You could’ve put Foden today in that midfield instead of Cherki and we would still have the same problem. The team structure is wrong and we have an £125m signing on £325k a week who’s genuinely doesn’t help the midfield structure in any way shape or form👍🏽
Gradually if cherki doesn’t pick up his winger boots Even foden is performing more than him in the midfield right now He will be seriously benched

Man City’s defence wasn’t at its best against Aston Villa today, but Abdukodir Khusanov put in a strong individual performance. 👏🏻 ◉ Joint-most defensive contributions (16) ◉ 8 tackles, including a last-man tackle ◉ 5 clearances ◉ 5 recoveries ◉ 2 interceptions ◉ 11 of 15 ground duels won ◉ 91% pass accuracy (61/67) ◉ 10 line-breaking passes What did you make of City's defence today?
